Safari Snorkels on 100 TD Cruisers

Can any one give me feedback on fitting one of these. I know they're good for clean air to the motor and all that but..

1/. Is there any noise issues created in the cabin?
2/. Can anyone say whether they actually improve power or performance?
3/. Is the Safari the one to get over others?
4/. any other points I should know

Cheers

Hey Andrew

Q1 No.

Q2 No.

Q3 Yes I am getting one on Tuesday.

Q4 If your not a tool person I would suggest you get some one else to do it.

If you are handy with tools let me know and I will try to help you through it.

Better still I will post a thread when I do mine with step by step photos.

Cheers Steve.

I won't be installing mine, I'll be going a 'job lot' discount with ARB when I get the snorkel, a Locker and OME suspension upgrade...soon I hope.

Andrew,

Steve Explorer Tours is right on the money. I put 1 on my T/D hundy and his answers are exactly how mine is. Great for dirt road following and water crossings.

You can believe in fairies for all I care, I was just having a laugh.

But as far as I am concerned snorkles do not give you better performance or power.

I know this because I have bought 3 Toyota's without a snorkle and then put one on The difference was Zipp nadda nothing.

As I said I was just having a laugh.

One out of three ,no improvement, So thats it, everything else is bull bleep ???

I would have to think being a Tour Guide you would have more of an open mind ???

I wonder how this conversation would go around a camp fire..Only one or two ways i guess ...

Happy Camping

My first post was not meant to be offensive, I apologize if it offended.

My other responses were a reaction to yours, not to say this is right.

It's fine to have a nick name, but I like to see a name on a post, that just me.

Anyway I am prepared to get over it, what do you say??

Cheers Steve.

ARB told me that the small yellow side light has to be relocated when they do the Safari - IE they cut a new hole for that too. My observation is that the Airtec snorkel does not require this - and for what it is worth, the Airtec is smoother and neater in profile against the 100 series body - I'll be going for the latter, before my next decent trip in our 100 (and I wouldn't trust me to install it either :-o)...... re performance - I had a Safari on the Jack - mainly to keep dust out of the equation and for some insurance on river crossings.... I'm highly sceptical about improved performance because although the scoop catches 'powered air' the abrupt turns that the air takes on its journey would downgrade the effect in my view..... and I usually cruise at 85-90kph anyway.
PLEASE NOTE that some models of Safari snorkel have a metal baffle washer installed near the scoop - only done on cars that the manufacturer knows will have noise issues in the cab - I don't know if they do it on the 100 series - neither Safari or the installer told me about it re my Jackaroo - as I recall, the washer restricted the airflow potential by well over 50% !!! - what a mob of @#$%^&*! - I took the washer out.

4/ don't believe so.

The indicator light on the guard is re-located to sit below the safari snorkel but looks tidy. I used the ossy park branch of the supplier you mentioned and they did a neat job.

Andrew,
I have used Safari before and they were ok. Used an Airtec on my LC100 because the Safari required the side indicator to be moved, the Airtec doesn't.

The paper template for hole drilling was not exactly right but close enough. I did my own and it took about 3 gentle hours. Not inclined to hurry and get it wrong.

Do you like cutting big holes in your Cruiser?

By the way I don't relocate the indicator I just remove the bulb and tie it off under the guard.
