Trying to find who has and can Turbo a 2001 4.5 petrol L/cruiser.
I know some will say up grade to either TD Cruiser etc., but can not really afford this as vehicle has over $50k of extras. Anyway the main reason is so I can gain more bottom torque for towing . I have so far fitted ,Unichip, Extractors, K&N aircleaner, 2.75 sports exhaust, but still am not able to get power from 1200rpm to 2000 rpm and the same when driving when taco drops down to 2000rpm moter sust dies and drops 400-600 rpm.
Have tried Safari but they dont do them any more, have checked all threads but nothing that is helpful. We are travelling round Australia for a couple of years so area is not a problem, we are currentle in
Singleton, going to Mittagong,
Canberra, then down the Murry River.
If any one can help would be eternally gratefull.
Cheers

Good advice. More likely to improve low end torque with a blower. The turbo will give you even more grunt above 2k but bugger all more below.

I am not an expert on this but my son plays boy racer in a rice burner and talks this kind of talk. Try getting a mappable chip then program it on a dyno to achieve the powerband you want. Sounds like you should already have oodles of grunt so maybe the Unichip is the cause???

Another option may be to replace the camshaft to suit towing.
This will give you the bottom end torque you are chasing, but at the expense of top end power. Could be cheaper as
well.

The turbo wont help your bottom end, it will make it worse with turbo lag. I have a turbo on my 1FZ-FE and it has reeeal bad lag until 2500rpm.
You are better off getting a different cam, reprogramming the unichip or fitting a supercharger to get more power from idle.
Also, try putting in a vent/plug or something you can remove to stop air having to be drawn through the
snorkel when onroad.

Thanks to every one for their imput. So far Motsons can either Turbo or Supercharge $12.5K & $10K respectively. CnJ motorsport can do either starting at $15k for turbo.
Cruiser I have sent a request to W/goong. One thing I have learnt today is that the Unichip only fixes a few things on the ECU you can replace the ECU and gain better power outputs according to Motsons 7 CnJ.
Will chase up S/charges over the next couple of days .I will post when I do something and the results .
thanks again to everybody.
Cheers

Gday Kim
I had a 4.5 turbo. While they are a great add on, you need to then run pulp fuel. It is real hard not to use the power, so consumption goes up.
Mine was an auto, so the power and torque was available from the start....the figures are 240kw at 5500 and 540 nm at 3500....
You can pick up second hand safari kits every now and then, a unichip (also sold by APS (safari) will need to be installed to tune the new setup, so a realistic figure is 8k to convert, 1.5 for chip and 6.5 for a system. The other systems available that i know of are AVO.

Thanks Dozer,
Mean looking rig in the photo, bet it hauls arse?
I already have the unichip but hadn't considered a second hand turbo kit . Might put an add in the wanted list and see what happens .Will also
check AVO to see what they have on offer.
Cheers

Ben
Something is amis, as
mine spooled at 2000, which was converter stall speed. The waistegate may have a problem, and not be closed all the way try moving it with a shifter on the lever...
