A 12 volt fluoro from BCF around 50 to 60 bucks, but most importantly your head lamp. Best light ever invented I reckon.

It depends on whether it's just a quick overnighter (in which case I leave the trailer hooked up to the camper)...... or if I have to unhook. I have 2 worklights on the back of the Patrol, which I can switch on to light up the whole area.

If I uncouple, then I usually park the Patrol beside the camper and use one of the side-mounted worklights (one on either side).

However, no matter what I'm doing, I use the head lamp to see what I'm doing right in front of me. I got 2 of those $99- LED head-lamps free from 4WD Monthly magazine with subs renewals. They are fantastic lights, with a high beam and a low beam option (both are a single LED in 2 separate lights, one above the other).

I run a 240v lead light with energy saver fluro 20W globe on an inverter for 4 to 5 hrs a night. hang it up with a hook and lights up whole camp site. next morning you would be hard pressed to find an impact on either battery.

I bought a 'torpedo light' from Derek ABR (ExplorOz advertiser).
A great bit of gear. Very well constructed & durable.
Been thru quite a few 'other' camp lights over the years-this is the best I've seen..

I use the car headlights to setup, then get the other camplights out once i've finished.

I use the 12v Nelson globes and put them in 240v bed lamps or in a tupperware container.
$30 for the globe and $5 for the lamp at Vinnies or $5 for the container at Bunnings.

We use a 12 volt halogen garden light with an auto plug attached. I have swapped the 20 watt halogen globe for a 5 led substitute. Draws very little power and is very flexible.

Knock in the ground pole.

Charge it up every 3 or 4 days whilst driving.

Can set it up anywhere then.

By far, the best (and cheapest) light for setting up camp is SUNLIGHT.

I plan ahead and make sure I am in a position to set up camp before darkness has descended upon us.

On those rare occasions where this is not possible then we just put out the swags and either move on in the morning, or set up a more permanent camp in daylight. Now that I also have an Oztent, I could also set this up behind the rear of the Jack with minimal lighting required.

I have a Torpedo light and a versalite (both fluro style lights) but they are for illuminating the cooking/eating areas, rather than seeing to set up the camp.
