The Bore Track via Bollards Lagoon is without doubt one of the best days riding I enjoyed on my DR650 Suzuki over a 10500 km total tour. Travelling from Cameron's Corner to Innaminka was just less than 200 km of winding single lane track of mainly light sand with some gravel patches. On the way I did not encounter another vehicle which added to the attraction and serenity. Changing landscape made the track interesting and the diversity is quite remarkable. You will encounter long wide mud flats with a firm surface (recent weather considered), winding single lane sandy tracks that meander small dunes and encircle rocky outcrops and barely recognisable tracks through knee high shrubs. For bikers you will need to be confident in sand, there's plenty of it. My tip for you is to stand on the pegs with weight back and soft hands on the grips plus plenty of throttle to let the bike skip over the sand. I was whooping with delight most of the way! For 4WD I expect the pace will be slower and some challenges but nothing that will leave you stranded so long as there has been no recent rain. Following the Bollards Mud Map is easy but along the way you will need to read the smallish directional signs at various intersections. Compared to the alternative routes travelling in the same direction this is by far the best with less wear on your bike or 4wd and no threats to your tyres. For motorbike enthusiasts I would say this is a chance in a lifetime and if you are in this vicinity, don't miss it. My only caveat on the advice given was that rain could alter this description significantly. There are several long sections of mud flats that would be a considerable challenge in the wet but I'm sure the Bollards people will advice accordingly. Bikes are only charged only $5 payable at the Bollards Station, 4WDs are $10.

Went from Cameron's Corner to Innamincka, via the Bore Track in mid April, and can only 2nd everything that kemosabe has said.

It was a totally delightful 3 or so hours drive... we took our time, stopped for lunch and took lots of pics ... making it one of our best days in a far too short a trip.

On our return to Cameron's Corner, just for the change, we went via the Old Streszlecki Track. Once again a top drive. Firm clay most of the way down except for the odd bit of sand. Much better than travelling on the newer roads that are kept by the oil and gas companies.

Worth reiterating though, if it's wet, it's going to be just a little bit different...

I am curious as to the possibility of taking an offroad caravan down the bore track from nth to sth? The van has seen a bit of average dirt rd including the birdsville tr and the tow vehicle is a well worked 4.2 turbo Patrol so I imagine power to be no problem in getting over all but the largest and softest of sand hills (of which most bikes would struggle anyway so presume this is of no concern).

I take your warning if it is wet.

I am no expert on caravan towing but I think any experienced driver should handle the Bore Track with ease. In some sections the going will be a little slow but will give you more time to enjoy the ambience of the surroundings. In several places along the track there are alternative sections that run for up to a few hundred metres. These appear as a fork in the track and are usually there to avoid an on-coming hazard. In most cases the track alternatives are parallel and I experimented with both routes. In every case the new alternative was a better option. I would advise a quick foot patrol if in doubt, or take the side track to avoid what is commonly deep ruts of dried mud in a low lying section. Hope that helps. Have a good one. Linc

if it hasn't been raining, you currently shouldn't have any trouble driving the Bore Track with the trailer at all. I did it about a week ago. Not a single soft sand hill to tackle, just a couple of very minor plain sandy patches that didn't require 4WD and a few corrugations.

Overall it actually was very pleasant drive and great country. Definitely worth the drive.
