the problem with a lot(not sure about cruiser)is they get a lot of dirt ect in the switch.
did it on my camry and ghia drivers side front.
pulled switch out and pulled it a part cleaned it up and if i remeber right the camry one needed a little playing around with the contacts.
pull the switch set up out of the door the actual toggle switch should unclip and clean all the junk out.
and if you brake it worse you already have to buy a new one.
so nothing to lose.

Hi Bat, i have a spare if you need it, but then i may need it ....
You can pull them appart and clean them, depends if it has blown up from resistance or just failed due to dirty contacts.

the driver side front switch on my 93 GXL sh*t itself a few weeks ago . Would go down but not up, when I looked at master switch assembly the contacts for that window were all brown and burnt.
Not willing to part with $400 I just swapped over the wires in the plug so I now use the drivers side rear window switch for the front window.(only the fridge sits on rhr seat anyway. make sure you disconnect plug to rear window at rear door.
works for me.

I have just replaced my front drivers side window motor and regulator as the window had stopped functioning. At first I had been told by my mechanic that it was the switch as he couldn't hear the motor working, but after pulling the door apart and having a look I found the fly wheel on the window motor was screwed. Toyota wanted $460 just for the motor, but after ringing a lot of wreckers, Hall 4 x 4 Salvage in Bayswater had a couple in stock for $110.00. The part was clean and it even included the regulator that had been re-greased.
