Looking for Employment in Newcastle!!!

Submitted: Sunday, Jun 01, 2008 at 17:54

Member - Christopher P (NSW)

Gees the days of ringing up and walking out of a old job into a new job are so hard these days!!

I've applied for like a million, get some interveiws but no job! I am employed and studying TAFE well OTEN. The course is CERT III in IT support, just started 2 months ago. But looking for anything that doesn't require me to go to sydney 5-6 days a week and work most weeks ends! I currently work as a merchandiiser, but looking to get into the IT side of things.

Tried to get higher positions at work but have being stuffed over and told I'm not smart enough, which is garbage, with an IQ of ABove average, 140, i don't think i am stoopid.

Anyone looking for a good worker who is loyal, diligent, honest and will give you there best all the time! I am also adaptable flexible and a creative thinker as there is no such thing as a problem only a solution!

Msg me or drop me an email for a resume/skills list.

anyway, you'd be fine with the teat thing, it is when you get a bit more friendly like a guy near here did with a horse, then you get in trouble.

Hey SK&D, no IT ain't boring! I am especially good at data, and system recovery! If your HDD is stuffed and i can get it to boot, or not, aslong as it spins, I can recover most of it or all of it!

I've being Known to pull apart machines and put them together, plus setup and heaps of other stuff whilst being awake for like 20-30 hours straight, no sleep. Just because i can and do.

I'mm 33 and i was programing microbee computers in basic and designing programs at 8-9 years old. My teachers and Parents held me back and i'm playing catch-up, quite a few years of useless othjer jobs and a trade, but IT and computers has always being my passion!!!

My Missus is finding the same thing.
Its not hard to get a job which pays crap or is in the middle of nowhwere with no accomadation or transport or where you get treated like crap
but 1/2 decent jobs are like gold with employers after 5 pluss years experience on specific machinery before they will touch you.
WA is currently awash with truckies and machinery operators who have headed over to make a fortune on the mines.
Theres not that many jobs though so most squabble over the lean pickings in perth.
she has a freind with 6 years experience on a digger including subdivisions and maintenance. His $26 per hour job out of town finished and all the other work hes tried for has had ques to operate a digger for $20-$22 per hour. You cant live in perth on that.
The missus is currently on a roller bulding the highway to bunbury for $24 PH but she has to live in the back of her ute in a Pinjarra caravan park and drive 40k a day for that.
Its only boom times for some - alot of others are doing it tough and Business owners are preying on it
you dont need to leave perth to go bush

Id be checking out the facts properly before you go over on the sterngth of stories like that
I can tell you Readymix pay their underground AGI drivers $26 PH and the Jetcrete were about 80-85 a year . Surface for Hanson in Karratha/Pt Headland is $19 per hour
All well short of 120k .
Maybe if you were doing a 6/1 swing you might get closer .

Hi there Davoe, He does 21 days straight with one sunday off in all of that then after doing his 21 days he gets 7 off. He does 12 hour days. If its 80/85 I would not bother even though its more then Im earning now but if he's true and its 110/120 then I'm going to seriously think about it. I was talking to him the other day and he's gone further inland to (I think ) he said Rio Tinto ?? (spelling)You might kow the place better then I do some thing like that. Dont happen to know a bloke called Greg Whitfield by any chance ?? Regards Steve M

I migt know where he has been working if it is then its 10 hour days and $25 per hour.
My missus turned that job down - just wasnt worth it. Getting sundays off n camp and no 12 hours was just rediculous for that pay.
He might have gone to work on a Rio Tinto site but its a fair bet hes not actually working for them.

Gday Davoe,
We're looking at moving over to Northampton sorta area after Christmas. Not because of the work situation,... but I did check it out while we were there. The money sounds great, but after takeing out the cost of land and housing........ its pretty good I reckon. There also seemed to be plenty of it. Like any where there is a shortage of trades.......so trades get paid accordingly.
I have relatives over there who do earn a lot of money un-qualified but thats not the case for everyone.
Ive certainly seen a lot worse places to work.

Cheers
