Patrol chassis workshop in Sydney ?

Submitted: Sunday, Jun 01, 2008 at 17:57

Nic I (NSW)

I'm soon to upgrade to an 08 Patrol ute and will be carrying 7-900kg of camper etc on its back.

To avoid the rear spring tower failures I've heard about, I'd like to strengthen them with something like what ATOC (of Belgrave Victoria) do: a transverse twin box-section steel ladder and vertical plates welded respectively to the tower tops and chassis rails.

Does anyone know of a workshop in the Sydney/Newcastle/Wollongong area who do this sort of work ?

(I have nothing against Belgrave/ the Dandenongs; on the contrary - it's a very lovely area, but just a tad far from the 'Gong !)

Thanks Kev,

He does indeed do this form of strengthening - quite a bit of actually, as the Patrol rear coil towers are a weak point on an otherwise robust chassis.

I enquired with him when I first looked at getting a cruiser chopped. Very good product from what I saw at his workshop. But Darkside Conversions had a better end product and fitted into my schedule for the conversion.

Hi Nic I,
I did mine myself which iam setting up for a similar job to carry heavy loads and a camper (hopefully not as heavy as 900k) at different times.
If you want to have a look and do measurments just send me a message.
I have put in the firestone air springs and edelbrock shocks to cope with the varying loads.

Try a place at Arndell Park in Sydney called KCDR Drivetrains. 02 9679 7747.

They do truck chassis mods and have an engineer in most Wednesdays to certify them. They may be able to help you.
