PROTECTIVE SLEEVE - over Dynamic Rope

Submitted: Sunday, Jun 01, 2008 at 19:44

KiwiAngler

Greetings

I want to put a length (about 12 -15mtrs) of the orange protective sleeving over the first 12- 15mytrs of my dynamic rope winch cable.

This will serve 2 purposes:
1) it will mean that the first layer (about 22 turns) of the dynamic rope will have a cover thus improvong it's resistance to UV while on the winch and

2) I can slide the protective cover down if the rope has to go over any rough or rocky areas whilst winching and it would then act as an anti-abrasion for the dynamic rope

I know a numbe rof $x4 outlets (ARB and TJM) sell it in 2 mtre legths but I am looking for 1 unbroken length about 1 2-15mtrs long

I have read about others doing this but haven't found a supplier yet

any ideas who I could get this from is appreciated

contact Roger from beadlock Australia , he will have the stuff but it will take a lot of space on your winch.

Why do you say 'it will take a lot of space on your winch"?

because it will make the rope thicker and will reduce the amount of meters that you can spool on to the drum.

Ask Roger from Beadlock , he can give you the answers. he imports the Dynamica rope through me.

I have done exactly this and found it works well, although you do have to be a bit carefull with the last layer on the drum as the sheath packs it out fairly quickly.

I just used about 2 meters of inch and a half grey layflat hose from the irrigation suppliers. cost me $10 from memory.

I already have a couple of meters covering the layer that goes om the drum

I am now looking to cover the layer that is the topmost layer on the drum

I calculate that about 12-15mters (22-24 turns around the drum)

The grey layflat hose - is it made of woven fibreglass fabric or plastic?

Its a woven nylon coated with a vinyl type of ruberised material. hope that makes sense.

Mine is water hose but you can get all different types - fuel resistant / high temp etc etc.

You must have one damn big winch drum!! Mine is packed solid to the brace rods. Although there is a lot of plasma on there to begin with.
