Treg or Highland hitch.

Gu towing camper. Is trailer security am issue? Easier to secure highland?

You can buy a lock for the Tregg hitch. I bought one in Tassie last month, it cost me $44. I only bought it cos I lost the original pin.

G'day Taipo, you can purchase a good treg hitch and lock in the EO shop or just the treg lock for a good price. I ordered one through here and it was on my doorstep in a metter of days.

Good brand. Thoroughly recommended.

The TREG people themselves told me a big fat padlock is hard to beat for trailer security (when I enquired about using their poly hitch). After using two rated bow shackles for the safety chains, I padlock one of one chain's links to the towbar's rear flange.

That's a good idea, but the problem as I see it is the chains are usually made of soft steel and are a piece of cake for a reasonable bolt cutter. Just have a look at how they cut them in the hardware store.The lock through the Tregg pin I think is a much better solution.

Hitch locks are just a big wank. It does not matter what type of hitch you use. You do not need to connect a hitch properly to move a van. All you need is a length of chain and a few shackles. You just shackle the chain to the safety chains on the trailer and loop it around something on your tug. You just need to have the A frame a little off the road and you can tow the trailer to somewhere quiet where you can take an angle grinder to the security locks. For the cost of some chain and a couple of shackles you can have a camper for less than the price the previous owner spent to attempt to secure it.

Probably the best security is a wheel clamp.
