HAHAHA that's a good one.

I think you'd notice the black smoke before you went through 7 or 8 Litres of sump oil!

It re minds me of the one going around after the 100 series came out. Apparently if you put them up on a workshop hoist the chassis would bend!

Yeah right!

Under Harsh conditions the 200 series will use up to a litre of oil every 1000km.

It's on page 268 of your owners manual.

The VW manual says oil consumption of 1 litre per 1000k is acceptable. The sump only holds 2 litres.

This is quoted from the 200 series owners Manual.

Quote:
Toyota Land Cruiser Station Wagon
Owner's Manual, page 289

-> Engine oil consumption
-The amount of engine oil consumed depends on the oil viscosity, the quality of the oil and the way the vehicle is driven.

-More oil is consumed under driving conditions such as high speeds and frequent acceleration and deceleration.

- A new engine consumes more oil.

-When judging teh amount of oil consumption, keep in mind that the oil may have become diluted, making it difficult to judge the true level accurately.

-Oil consumption: Max. 1.0l per 1000km (1.1 qt./600miles, 0.9lmp. qt./600 miles).

-If you consume more than 1.0l (1.1qt./0.9lmp. qt.) every 1000km (600 miles), contact your Toyota dealer.

Cheers Steve.

So if one wasn't to check their oil level between the 10,000km standard changes which for many would be the norm, then it could be quite possible to blow the V8 diesel up with a level of oil consumption Toyota say is quite acceptable. (That's if one ignored the bright red light) These new Toyota's must be 2 strokes they way they drink oil ;-))

Gmac,
Why would I want to buy a new V8 diesel Toyota.

By not buying one I have at least $50000 extra to spend on fuel.
My Discovery TD5 does everything I want to do. Why change?

Must be some logic in that.

Disco.

I've got a real 4wd as well. Cost me $2000, not $70000.
When it gets dirty inside and out I can just take out the seat bases and floor mats, get the HP water spray unit and blast all the crud out or off.
Don't have to worry about sound systems, leather upholstery, electronic gizmo's and so on.

A squirt of CRC or WD40 and it goes again.

It too does all I need in an off road vehicle.

Besides I'm a Land Rover fanatic and, like Toyota owners, can't believe anyone would buy anything else but what I own.

End of story.

Disco

PS: My real 4wd is a Series 3 Landy

we've done a few injector pump replacements under warantee in our workshop on the new 200 series diesel cruisers and we've been surprised by the amount of oil that is sitting at the bottom of the air intake pipes on these engines......

when you tip it over the oil runs out like theres atleast a table spoon of oil sitting at the bottom of the intake....

not sure how much oil they use yet, but this surprised us.
