Mike, After owning a 60 series, 80 series and a 100 series live axel Cruiser and listening to all the so called experts whom had never driven an ifs cruiser I was the same as you when I looked at the new td cruiser. With this being the case I fitted a rear air locker as soon as I got the car. With just the rear locker this ifs cruiser went more
places at Landcruiser Park than any of my previous cars.
Since owning my td cruiser I have now done 1 East / West crossing of
Australia and
Cape York towing a camper plus a lot of small weekend trips, a total of 85,000k and not had 1 problem (not even a rattel).
The car has since had a number of mods which has made the car just awesome.
These being:
1. Detronics chip, 3" exhaust & Turbo bust giving over 30% increase power
2. Front and rear air lockers.
3. Larger front torsion bars and 50mm lift HD rear springs.
4. Bilstein shocks all round.
5. 170lt reserve fuel tank plus 95 in the main.
6. OX hydrolic winch C/W oil cooler(mounted in a TJM Bar.)
7. Cooper 285 ST
tyres.
8. Icom UHF, Garmin Street pilot 111
GPS and
Sat Phone.
9. Outback draw system in rear.
10. Fitted a true duel battery system with larger batteries. (The standard duel battery system is not a true duel system.)
11. Spare tyre swing rack on rear.
12. TJM side steps that don't bend when you go over a bump.
13. Glind Hot water system.
14. 85 lt water bladder.
And for a good nights sleep we take a
Kimberley Kamper complete with 10' Tinny, 15 HP Honder motor and fold up trailer.
If the above does not have you envious, we only have 35 more sleeps until we head to the Kimberlies, down the Canning and back across the Simpson.
Any way I recon you should not think twice about an IFS criuiser, with just a rear dif lock they are streets ahead of anything else( p.s. I'm not bias as I also currently own a GU patrol wagon, Navara STi twin cad, Hilux twin cab, Hilux surf, Landcruiser Ute, 100 series petrol wagon and Suzuki XL 7 Grand Vitara)
