Lion, in all honesty I would dump the 16" wheels before you invest any more money in them!! The Rodeos go fine with 10r15 tyres and its only a small investment in a set of 15x7 sunraysias or if you are keen then a set of alloys!

With the trend for all new 4x4s to be fitted with at least 16" rims it has meant there are masses of 10r15 on the market and they still are a perfect all rounder. You can have your choice with whatever tread type you want and never run into the problem of 'not having that size with that tread pattern'. There is anything you could want from Pirelli on road style (why you would bother) to claws or MTs!!

Im stoked that all the new car manufaturers are going 16 I have my pick and usually for half the price of the 16" compromise in lack of choice!

Now, if you stay with your standard 16x6 wheels, these are your options;

205R16 as standard. Easily available.

225/75/16 - slightly wider, same diameter (height). Easily available.

235/70/16 - slightly wider, same diameter. Will be hard to find as it's an odd size - Dunlop Adventurer, Toyo OPAT, Goodyear Wrangler AT/S, Cooper AT, Cooper ST.

215/85/16 - Same diameter as a 31" tyre (roughly 30mm height increase - will raise the vehicle 15mm). This size tyre will put your speedo out by about 3%. Limited availablity - Hankook Z36, Kumho Roadventure AT825, Kelly Safari AWR, BFG TracEdge, Cooper AT, Cooper ST, Toyo OPAT.

235/85/16 - Same diameter as a 32" tyre. Probably not recomended as they are fairly tall and it will put your speedo out by about 10%. Widely available.

Now you can also change your wheels for 15x7 Sunraysias (about $50 each - you will need to ask for the 'Navara' offset) and go with;

30x9.5x15 - popular tyre size and widely available. Same diameter as 205R16 and approximately 235mm wide.

31 x10.5x15 - extremely popular tyre size and widely available. Approximately 260mm in diameter (mine actually measure at 250mm) Tyres will be comparitively cheaper in this size due to their popularity. The are approx. 30mm taller than standard and will put the speed out by 3%. So when your speedo says 100kph, you will actually be doing 103kph. They will apparently rub very slightly on the inner wheel tub on the rear under full articulation (I have a flat tray, so haven't experienced this).

Obviously I ended up with the Sunraysias and 31x10.5x15 tyres. I found this to be the most cost effective route ($210 wheels and Bridgestone Dueler AT Tyres) to get wider tyres with a small lift in ride height. And it looks cool too :).

Just bare in mind that I did this research about a year ago, so can't guarantee that all of the mentioned tyres are still available in those sizes.

I think I've covered it! I did fairly extensive research as I couldn't make up my mind when it came time to replace the standard tyres.

I have just gone thru this senerio with the father-inlaw as he puts his boat in off the beach for fishing, we came to a choice of coopers st 225/75x16 or 235/70x16 as the height remained much the same for what he requierd. There are getting more choices out there now.

Having done some tyre swapping I changed to 245/70/16 tyres the same as now come standard on the new rodeo's and my 2.8 pushes them along fine, and fitted to the standard rims have no real problem, and work well on soft sand.
