The Patrol GU 5th gear Replacement date..

Submitted: Sunday, Jul 06, 2003 at 20:05

Andrew

All those with the 3.0 Turbo Manual (and I think some 4.2's as well)

Much discussion has been had in the past re this issue and the Date which Nissan did the upgrade.

Well, I was with a Nissan Mechanic last friday going over a few things and asked him to confirm the date for me. He was very helpful (I think because my build date was after the upgrade) and he showed me the shop service manual which had quite a spread on the issue.

Anyway, bottom line was that the upgrade, according to the workshop Nissan manual, was as of build NOVEMBER 1, 2001 onwards.

Hope this helps some of you who may have been wondering.

Andrew,

The date you have given may be correct for when the problem was resolved.... However you fail to include when the problem was introduced.

The problem was actually introduced with the launch of the 3.0L in 2000 when they revised the gearbox to cater for the extra power of the new engine.

According to Nissan Customer Service, they revised the box when the 4.2TD's came out in mid '99. The failures started not long after.

I 'FAILED' to include when the problem was introduced because I don't know sweet FA about it.

I am a mechanical idiot. I was only putting across what I believed to be accurate useful information based on the way it was obtained and the documents produced to support it.

Andrew,

OK don't get so upset....

I got all the facts after a friend of mine GU series 2 had the problem.
As an ex Nissan dealer employee I got some contacts and I post the facts but people keep getting itchy about these things so in future I may refrain from try to helping others with the facts....!!!!

Do you remember or better still can you obtain a date when the shop service manual was put out regarding the 5th gear issue? I would like to know precisely when Nissan became aware they had a problem!
Thanks

Sorry peck, didn't note the date on the manual.

I live out in the bush but will try to remember next time I go to the dealer and ask.
