Ah! you guys make me envious.
My first visit to Mt Skene was in 1978 on a motorbike -totally blew me away - it was a perfect autumn day - sunny - not a breath of wind.
Continued to visit up until 1991 had some great chicken and beer lunches up there, - the amazing thing is that I never ran into anybody else up there, and most times had perfect
weather, not many people knew about the place. One of the more interesting trips was when we got a toyota corona further up through the snow than we could get a 60 series landcruiser,
No slur on the landcruiser - it was just too heavy for the conditions and the corona just kept on slipping its way up the hill.
I was really liucky in those days - a mate had a shack near the Kevington Pub and we'd stay there for ages after the fruit season in central
victoria finished, we'd spend most of our time exploring a 200 km radius with the odd trip to
dargo hotham and Mt. buller areas I still think that area has THE best offroading and scenic
places in
Australia,
I hope we never lose access to some of those
places.
I was planning a trip there in May this year till the drought and the bush fires took their toll - so I went to
the Simpson desert instead - probably saw more water in the desert than I would have in the high country anyway.
Any how thought Id share my appreciation of the place, I really miss the grandeur and isolation I felt up there. Ive since found similar
places but they are rare.

I agree with how you feel ,there are a few
places like that for me as wellmostly memories of hiking and such but in the mountains and sometimes just the beauty and solitude is just getting harder to achieve.
Plenty of huts around up there sometimes need a point in the right direction.
We werent alone up there a nice set of rigs with bead lockers and mickey thompson baja claws looked ready to tackle anything up there ,
i reckon they would look a treat on the navara, lol
