Think the old Akrubra has had it's day.

Doing a bit of packing yesterday, and happen to look across at the old hat sitting on the bench in the garage. Sad looking thing it is.

A bit off time back we crossed an old wire fence buried in the ground. Given my good luck it finished up wrapped around the lower guts of the car. Buggar!

Got under the car, and started to cut it off. One piece came off like a rocket and tore a three inch cut up the front of the hat.

I was leaning there in the garage, looking at all the cuts, stains and sweat this old hat had gone through.

It's survived wire, a tree fall, dog chewing, a few pub blues fire and just about everything else.

The thought came to me, that a lot of memories are contained in a man's hat.....

Now I have to start all over again.

Regards

Kim

Onya Kim. You are right about a lot of memories contained in a man's hat & a new one never seems quiet right until you break it in & it sort of becomes an accepted part of your head & then the day comes & they become as one!!
Don't chuck the old one out, hang it in your shed & as time goes by it will remind you of many times you shared to gether.
I enjoy your many posts on all things, many of which are about days gone by. Maybe you could do one on your favourite hat & the adventures you had in it ? LOL & cheers.

pig's arse Kim,

"three inch cut up the front of the hat."

mate my old girl (let me rephrase that) hat has a five inch gash across the brow from the hard yards we have done together. i just can't bring myself to change just yet.

you have to wear them, sleep in them, change tyres in them, kneel down in the hot gravel with them, sit down for smoko on them, drink water out of them, talk to them, smille at them.......

or is that just me.........ha ha

but then, as you said...

"a lot of memories are contained in a man's hat."

too right.

Don't start me on Damn Dog.

She knows we're heading off bush. She driving me bloody crazy at the moment.

Any way, if travellers come across a scruffy old fella having a bit of a blue with a dog on the side of the road some where between Wilcannia, White Cliffs, or the way up to Tilterweira Station, stop and have a chat.

Kim

Whatever you do don't toss it out.... it should go straight to the pool room where you can reminisce with mates over a coldy or six.

I only got my first Akubra back in 2005 in Innamincka Pub. I was sipping on a Pale Ale and it caught my eye, asked to try it on and it sat up there like it belonged. That was it, its become a part of me now. Can't wait to get some years up on it....
