We were there in the last two weeks and stopped at Coward Springs which is a small fee, clean facility and free firewood.Then camped at Alberga River which did not have water but was nice in the sandhills.
Before that there is the Algebuckina Bridge with camp spots under it but also to the east on the water hole. Another water hole camp at Eringa Stationand maybe also at Abminga Siding but didn't stay at either.
Further south we stopped in the scrub off the Woomera Road on the Mount Gunson Mine road. Friendly folk in there who will make you welcome. We camped in the scrub at the entrance to the mine area.

we drove under the bridge and camped there at Nrth Creek I think it was called....prob only 15 - 20 outta town....gtreat spot, plenty of fire wood....nice and quiet..... we then managed Lyndhurst I think from memory the next day.....easy run....

In general terms, there are heaps of camping spots along the OT - we like it quiet too - our practice has usually been to simply look for a tree lined creek crossing when its about time to camp (usually around 4pm) - for eg.... approx 32k north of William Creek - nice little spot - even though the trees are mostly arid stunted varieties and don't offer much shade, they can provide a bit of wind break - about every creek crossing wil have camp spots cleared by the many previous travellers - there won't be any firewood there of course - you need to bring that from a place that people don't camp in :-o).......

There are lots of places to camp as has been said. We like to make it to Farina on our way north. It's about 45kms south of the Maree. The camp ground is good and the ruins of the old town are interesting. Once on the Oodnadatta track we've camped at Coward Springs, Algebuckina Bridge, Oodnadatta waterhole and stopped at Eringa Waterhole for lunch and thought it would be a very nice camp.

There are so many creeks, sidings, bridges etc along the way that you should have no trouble finding somewhere quiet.

Near Oodnadatta, The waterhole opposite (other side of track to) the Algebuckina Bridge is a good secluded spot, in the "middle" William Creek (one of my favorite spots) and further along towards Marree, Coward Springs.

The best thing about travelling routes like the Oodnadatta Track is you can camp almost any where you like....which is what we did...love this country.

I back Shaker, Beresford siding is tops, last time i was there the bore still had water running out it so was a free shower, but that was a few years ago.
