hi, we have tried a few different types of mirrors that clip onto our car's mirrors, they tend to viberate or fold in when a truck passes, the last ones we bought were like the ora ones that clip on and have the miiror on the arm, but they too aren't much chop. so we need to bight the bullet and get some more. we drive a commodore (which is the baby, so don't want any risk of paint or panel damage). we have looked at mirrors with a magnetic support arm, also 1s that have a suction cup to attach to the door and others that stap from the top to the bottom of the door. all of these say they are the best and wont damage the car, so that's why i'm asking those that have tried and tested which ones to look more closely at.
thanks from chris.

hi, we looked at those yesterday and were told that they don't suit the commodores as the part that attaches to the bottom of the door is to fat for our car, there is another type for normal 2 wheel drives that are the same sort of thing, which are the ones we seem to be leaning towards.
thanks chris.

Perhaps you should ditch the Commodore and buy a Nissan Patrol , they fit on those nicely

Do you have a roo bar? If so this is the best place for them. Convex mirrors are the best as these do not show vibrations as much as flat mirrors. Have you thought of a rear view camera system?

hi, no we don't have a roo bar and we do use a camera at the rear of the van when towing, but still need the mirrors to see down the side better.

The standard strap fitting on the Aus Truck mirror was also to narrow for the Prado. The company supplies a separate wider fitting. You should check if thats ok for yours - or indeed if they supply a separate one for Commodore.

Howdy, like you, we tried a few & had the same sorts of problems you are experiencing. Then we were put on to Aussie truck mirrors and cannot speak highly enough of them. There are many members on this site who will agree.
They are not the cheapest on the market, but you will not regret it if you were to buy them.
They do have a strap, similar to seat belt strapping, that is in contact with the duco on the door. This worried a mate of mine as he thought that if dust got between the two surfaces it would damage the duco. He fitted one one of those "fluffy" things (available from super cheap etc) that fit to the shoulder strap of a seat belt as he reckons this will prevent any duco damage. We just use them as stock standard & have not had any problems with scratching etc. Cheers.

Gonebush,

I bought an Ora Mirror and had the same trouble with trucks, etc.
Then purchased a Ora Magnetic support arm which has done the trick. The mirror is solid and no more problems with trucks. Has a magnetic plate wihich fits on the door - should fit your vehicle.
A bit expensive - I think $70 or $ 80.

Cheers,

Bob

Hi Gonebush,
We have tried all of those mentioned. The bigest problem we found with those which clip onto the door was that they interfere with the window movement. By chance came across some which mount on the bonnet. easily attached, the mirror assembly can be removed when not towing the van. A little vibration when extended out fully; depending on the car, there are additional stay to prevent this. I personally don,t use them. Unfortunately I can't remember the brand. However, they are shown on carac's website www.carac.com.au under car accessories, in the blue box.

Cheers
