Holden Rodeo (Jackeroo?) Lift Kits

After much searching for info I just got a reply from Eddie @ 4WDUSA link textregarding Calmini (made in the USA) lift kits to suit Holden Rodeo's (kits available for the Jackeroo too I believe).

2" torsion bar, shocks & rear shackle lift $995

3" upper control arm, torsion bar, cross member, shocks & spring lift $1995

Upper control arms alone (allows over 2" of wind up on the torsion bars) $885

I would hit them up for a indexed price due to the fall, would be curious and maybe even consider purchasing if they were to pass on the discount!

I have been looking at the Calmini gear for years but thought the changeover cost from the states was prohibitive!!

I can't find any other specialised lift kits anywhere (with new upper control arms). There are plenty of 'wind it up' or 'bigger torsion bar' options with suspension kits, but no other genuine 'lift' kits.

Most interesting, I have heard a lot of people report problems with excessive cv & uni wear when lifting jackaroos, have you guys heard this also , and do you know what effect this lift conversion has on the front end geometry - if it can be shimmed out etc. My jack could certainly do with a few more inches ( as could i !!)
Also has anyone also fitted these style of kit and had any feedback from a vehicle engineer / vicroads etc.

If you are running the constant front hubs then of course you will get more wear from lifting the front of any IFS setup! If like most of the IFS setups the hubs lock maually then you only have a little more stress on the CVs when in 4wdrive. But be reasonalble we are only talking a few inches of lift, these kits are only 2 or three inches and winding the torsion bars up can give you two inches!!

The new upper control arms do correct the geometry a little and there are also ball joint spaces that can correct even more for more lift!
They are a quality product and highly used and recommended in the states for all the Isuzus out there!!

Perhaps I should have mentioned that the 3" lift is a complete kit, brake hoses, shackles, nuts, bolts, new bump stops etc (everything needed to fit the kit).

My 6in lift cost $2200 Engineered and all came with the works, and panhards etc etc...

Suppose as I said, not much call for them, so they can charge what they like, criminal ;-)~

We (the 4WD community) really need some competition in this area of vehicle modification. Especially for us that don't have the 4 established modification kings (landcruiser, disco, jeep and patrol).

Whoever did yours, do they (or can they) do Rodeo's?

That upper control arm is the key, and at $885 just for that from 4WDUSA, by the time you add ANY suspension kit to it the cost is massive.

Any engineering firms out there want to jump in on this???? Tritons, Rodeos, Pajeros, Couriers, Bravos, (not sure about Navara's) there are a lot of torsion bar front end 4WD's out there and the control arm is the key to any substantial lift. There is an untapped market for this stuff.

Mines a GQ patrol, you could get a 4-6inch lift done almost anywhere for the price.

I recommend Total 4wd Center in Epping Vic, they did mine, Brett and Rod nice blokes and knows their shiat.

you could contact calmini direct. with duty, freight and gst, import as little as possible. the u c a is all you need. calmini the only people who make them.
the upper ball joint move is a more common way to increase ground clearance.
ive imported parts 8-10 days have a look at [ www.independent4x.com ] and the isuzu forum at [ www.4x4wire.com/isuzu/? ]

with the ball joint move and the spacer with torsion bar crank and with 265x 75 x16 tyres my front, ground to underneath guard is 925mm.
the ball joint move allows you to crank and keep wheel alig ok.

you need to think about these changes cv wear, speedo, shackle and tyre legality
the 4x4 wire site especially their forum has heaps of info.

remember our rodeo is a pickup and jackeroo is a trooper. all rodeos from 86 to 02 have same suspension and jackeroos without rack and pinion steering the same as rodeo.

To compare with the above quoted prices from 4WDUSA in West Oz, direct from Calmini, for my Rodeo (US = Pickup) the 4/8/03 conversion rates mean that the 3" lift kit is AU$1151.02 (a saving of AU$843.98) and the UC arms are AU$480.76 (a saving of AU$404.24)

Of course then there is freight + import duties/taxes to be added to that, but it still could be an option.

$843 and $404 respectively is massive savings, enough I imagine to more than cover freight and import duties. Anyone up on that stuff??

Also found rear spring over axle kits for Izuzu's for around the US$130 mark, wonder how they go with legals here?

As far as private importing goes , I'm not sure about the import duties etc, but I know that freight wouldn't get any cheaper until you got a full pallett load. Anyone else got any info on private import duties / taxes ??

yarda you are looking at 5% duty on commercial vehicles (4wds) parts & 10%gst. The calculation of gst is( the cost of the goods + freight + insurance + duty) x 10%. Work it out before you commit. May not be worth it.

Taken from a Australian website explaining the hows and whys in their *** 4" *** lift to IFS Hilux's. But at $3.5k it ain't cheap either.

.......................The front subframe assembly is replaced with new parts that locate all the components lower down. The angle of the front CV joints is maintained at the factory setting.

Why not just turn the torsion bars until it's at the height you want ? Because then it'll ride terribly, the CV joints will be at 90% of their maximum operating angle and give very poor travel and the torsion bars will quickly sag.

New drop down brackets are provided for everything, including the brake lines.

Sway bars are retained with the use of the included extensions.......................

Can this be done to Rodeos/Jackaroos?

I'm starting to go full circle and I'm thinking of
getting another one.

I'm still amazed at the amount of room in the back
of my 'ole tractor compared to all the other's (except for the cruizers/patrols)
anyway...
this raising option will be one of the factors in my final choice of 4x4.
have ~6 months to go before I'll upgrade
