worn? Toyota 100s key

Has anyone yet had a problem with key failure on 100s Toyota keys.Vehicle 4 yrs 110000 kms.Toyota non cooperative.This will become a real problem for owners in no time.Nothing to do with chip and not much wear apparent.Advice any owner to keep key number .Mine disappeared with previous Toyota factory driver.New key $80 plus cutting etc .Can not recommend Toyota customer service for comfort

Hi Ya, the early GU patrols have the same problem, i went through 3 keys in 4 years. my new gu has a remote keyless opening so it reduces the wear on the keys. But the old key was just a double sides key, 8 bucks and its yours but now the new patrol has a coded key and its a one piece job, unlike the holden keys now. Anyway. we all want better security and thats the price we have to pay, Michael

Not sure about the 100 key but I had a Mazda many moons ago as a work vehicle and had a huge bunch of keys, pocket knife with everything but the kitchen sink hanging off the ignition key. Needless to say the key wore out very quick (less than 50,000km). Now I don’t carry any extra keys or Gizmos on the ignition key and they last much longer.Cheers

Being a locksmith myself, I have to comment on this, Unfortunatly Keys will wear out and in some way they are designed to. They are generally made of a harder material than the lock components. But i have to say if all key users lubricated there locks every couple of months with GRAPHITE ONLY we would probably loose 70% of our lock repair resquests.
