I have had a 166 L long range fuel tank fitted to the new 76 Series. At 400K the fuel gauge started to move down, at 1200K the low fuel light came on but the gauge showed just under a quarter,I made it home with the odometer showing 1250K. Next day I removed the fuel sender unit from the tank and measured the fuel left in the tank it measured 80mm on a stick.Considering the size of the tank I would say I would have about 40 L left at least. Having had a look at the float and low fuel sensor it appears I need to extend the length of the low fuel sensor to keep it down in the fuel. To do this I will have to cut and lengthen the wire to sensor as well as lengthen the wire stalk it hangs on. The wire is a special type so not sure I can solder it. Has anyone with this problem sorted it out? would appreciate some ideas on it. Regards,,Foxhound.

Who fitted the tank? When mine was installed the wire attached to the float was modified as part of the install (As IMHO it should be when having a long range tank fitted). I'm sure I have seen an article on the web somewhere on how to do this job, if you don't have any luck with the installer.

However that dosn`t seem to be the case to me with the light coming on at 1/4 full. The gauge seems to be reading reasonable correct apart from it not moving for the first 400K but that is OK by me. The fuel light is on a separate stem from the float and just needs to be lowered,a simple adjustment as the sender is easy to get at. I am a mechanic and have all the gear to do the job, its just the lengthening of the wire and the type of material it`s made of I am concerned about, don`t want to stuff up a new sender. G'day Foxhound,

I put a larger sub tank in the Patrol, and had to cut the rigid wire to the float, and insert 75mm of bungy pipe, then braze. Solder will not hold it together, unless the extension will allow the original wire to slide in both ends.

G`Day Patrol,,,As above the float is OK it`s the low fuel sender that`s the problem. You are right with the solder,I would silver solder the ridged stem,have oxy etc to do that. Regards ,Foxhound.
