Howdy,

Not so long ago, we bought a near stock HJ61, great car, very good condition and I already love it. It should be a very reliable car.
The reason we bought it is like many of you, to explore.
My better half will be on 99% of the trips with me, so the car will be pretty packed 99% of the time with things you don't really need but look great in the mirror. (Don't let her hear it)

Now my question to other explorers............
What do I bring as spare parts?
I got some hoses for the radiator, some belts, engine oil, water and a tire repair kit.
What essentials do I miss?

A workshop manual would be high on my list. Knowing where the water trap in the fuel line is would be another.
A very small gasket in the fuel pump can give problems at high mileage...carry a spare.
Check to see if the oil is overfilled in the gearbox, or if the "mod" has been done.
Check to see all glowplugs are functional.
Carry spare fuses.

Yep, the water trap is located on the inside of the drivers side chassis underneath the middle of the vehicle. It has a small drain plug in the bottom.
And to find the 12H-T glow plugs, you'll be looking a long time :-))))

Second the info available on the Exploroz site. My personal "don't leave home without it" item...Gaffer tape and lots of it! (You can mend tyres with it lol!).

NO no no.... the skill is to FIND the bit of fencing wire that gets you out of trouble. Usually old 8 guage.

Part of the skill might also be to not challenge the integrety of the fence that you get the wire from.

The handle of my camp oven is made of just such wire from near Arkaroola 1992.

Road side assist.... Total Care if in RACV.

If you are sticking to the bitumen and main roads.... nothing special really.

If outback and offroad..... water! Enough food.
A couple of chairs and shelter from the sun.
A billy to boil while you wait for help to come.

Seriously.. spares for all the bits that might go and spare bolts that match your vehicle.

A good set of tools. If you can't use them, some helpful good samaritan may have the skill needed.

A good mobile phone.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned there is a spare fuel filter. Most important with a diesel in my opinion.

As well as the things mentioned above, I also carry quite a large selection of various size hose clamps, they can come in useful for clamping all sorts of things.

Fixed a busted airline by wrapping the split in gaffer tape, then cut the finger off a leather glove and put that over the gaffer tape and then a few hose clamps around the leather sheath and it got me 70 K's home. That was in a truck, not my 60.
