How do I get mapsource?

To get Garmin Mapsource follow these directions:

OK...without going into too many details of why etc. if you dont have Garmins 'Trip and Waypoint Manager' installed, then probably the easiest way to get Mapsource installed (all free and legal!) is to download and install the Garmin Training Centre for windows from: Site Link

Once you have done that you can then install Mapsource. I suggest using version 6.13.7, as the latest one 6.14.1 is s l o w.

There are other ways of going about it...but that way is relatively straight forward

Well I'm doing something wrong....not understanding half the lingo is probably half my problem.

I have downloaded to my PC the mapsource stuff and looked at the garmin tutorial (about a 2 - 3 minute video thingy)

Anyway, all that seems to have loaded fine and my untitled mapsourse program gives me a window onscreen with a world map that I can zoom in and out of and all that, so I figure that bit is correct..correct???

Now that I have all the Garmin training centre stuff downloaded, I have the 'training centre' and the 'mapsource program' which both show pretty much the same map program on screen when open.

Now... it only seems to be in the training program where I am able to 'Add a New Device' being my 760, but the drop down isn't working and the 'Find a Device' box doesn't locate my 760. YES IT IS PLUGGED IN VIA A USB....

So what am I doing wrong...???? or have I done something wrong already and don't know it???

Is your computer recognising the Nuvi as a "removable Disc"

It should show two "removable Disc" drives in windows explorer. One for the Nuvi memory and one for your add on card.

This is a great site and plenty of real "gurus" there. You'll have to register to post etc, but it's free.

The installation of shonkymaps (full topo) requires about 192 mb of memory.

Non Routing means, that you "can't" input an address or location and have the unit direct you to that place.

Yes, the mapset is pretty good for nothing.
You can get another free mapset "Track 4 Australia" from:
T4A Maps
There is also a better Pro version, available for a few dollars.

Any views on which is better? And how recent the Shonkymap data is? I see copyright dated at 2007 on the site but that may not mean much.

And for a few more dollars you can buy OzTopoV2.1 but wait Mapsource have just released there Topo Version for Australia which is Auto routeable.

You can also download nRoute for free and use that for moving maps
