Snowy Mountains Road Conditions Feedback

I am interested in how suitable the Alpine Way (from Khancoban) is for a medium sized poptop 16ft in Summer. I have driven the road previously (some years ago) but not with a trailer and am interested in setting up camp at Geehi or Tom Groggin in Jan.

The road has been OK for caravans for a few years now - since they finished sealing the road all the way through. Went through it a couple of years ago in convoy with a couple of other vans in the 22' - 24' range. There is a long hill between Tom Groggin and Dead Horse Gap but if you take it steady (and in the right gear) there is no problem going either way unless your van is too heavy for your tug.

Excellent, thanks for the feedback. Do you recall if there are good camping areas for the Van at either Geehi or Tom Groggin without having to cross the river/s (not really suitable with the van)?

Check out places up the top^.
Just drive in from the road, no river to cross.
Beautiful spot.

Geehi is a great spot to camp. We were there just after Xmas last year. It was very busy at that time though, and I'm sure it would have been the same at Tom Groggin.

Heaps of space at Tom Groggin for the van, not sure about Geehi as I've never stopped there.
The big camping area at TG is on the NSW (pay) side.

There is a sign at the Khancoban end stating that it is not suitable for caravans.

Lots of people in this area at this time and lots of flies.A dining gazebo or shelter is a good idea.The road is bitumen all the way but as said before the hill from tom groggin to dead horse gap is steep and narrow ,if you can cross the river your find much quiter spots on the Vic side .There is a choose of crossings,and if it hasnt rained there all pretty easy or there is the brigde to tom groggin station.
