Hi All,

We're hoping to visit the Grampians in mid/late May. We will have the Coromal off-road van and are looking for a place which is secluded and has long drops. On looking at the park maps, I am leaning toward one of the central sites.

Your opinions please?

Happy trails, Mike.

None far off the beaten track but a couple of suggestions:
Boreang camp ground on Glenelg River Rd is OK unless it gets wet - we can only hope. Should be quiet in May.
Smiths Mill - close to Lake Wartook and McKenzie Falls but tucked out of the way. Have not camped there - not sure about van access.
(Plantation camp ground currently closed, being upgraded.)
Troopers Creek is our favourite - mainly for tents but a couple of spots can fit a van.
Buandik is secluded but not central.
Borough huts and Jimmy's Creek are close to the main road but Jimmy's Creek should be quiet at that time of year. It is a bit further off the road. All new facilities in both of these post 2006 fire.
Bomjinna is quite secluded but further from other activities, walks.

hope this helps

Boreang certianly the best spot balancing central position, good caravan access, good loos, good pit fireplaces, and quiet, hope to be there ourselves for a couple of nights in May. Gravel road so keeps a fair group of people away.

Jimmy's creek good spot but a bit far away from most track and walks. Buandik an excellent spot and good tracks over the mountains (Goat track and Vic Range trach excellent drives) and very good walk into a hidden cave from the Buandick camp ground. Not signed but can gie you directions if interested.

Thanks guys, it always helps to have some prior knowledge. With the rain we are getting at the moment, I'm hoping the Grampians will be nicely refreshed.

Happy trails, Mike.
