Hi all, I have a 98 HZJ75 with standard 4.11 diffs. Wondering if its possible to change a 60 series LSD rear with 3.7 gearing into the rear of mine, then put a hilux LSD rear with 3.7 as well into the front of mine? Can it be done? thanks in advance

I don't know about the rear, however the front diff is NOT the same as a hilux, thats a myth.
A popular monthly based four wheel drive magizine went into great detail and it was "busted"

Why do you want 3.7 diffs?

Charlidees, if you are still running the the NA 1HZ you are very unlikely to save any fuel, might even increase consumption as it will then be out of its torque band and will need more "foot" to maintain speed.
Years ago a friend and I tried all sorts of different diff and tyre combo's (very early cruisers had 3. something diffs and tires are an easy way to change the gearing, right up to 900x 16). After a fair bit of "testing" we came to the conclusion that 4.11 with standard 7.50 x 16 in a road pattern was pretty close to ideal especially if loaded. Increasing overall tyre diameter and width used more fuel as did a more aggressive tread pattern.
So good old Toyota wasn't far off the mark with standard 7.50 x 16's.

I agree 100% with Peter, which is why I asked the question.

As a general question Phil did toyota change the internal gearing in the gearbox or transfer case or both, seeing as the 79's now run lower ratio diffs. Aren't they 4.3 or something now?

Gday Peter,
The 4.300 diffs are only found behind the 1Hz motor and the small R151F gearbox.
The 4.100 diffs are found behind the factory TDs with H150F gearbox.
The 4.111 diffs are found in the 60/75/80 series.

FactoryTD 1HD-FTE: HDJ78/79 with H150F gearbox:

Hey Phil you don't work for toyota do you? ;-)))
Nah they wouldn't be able to supply that sort of info to a prospective customer.

I don`t remember my manual gearbox name (H55 or not) but:
I had diffs 3,6. As for Old models you could find diffs with: 5,14; 5,28 and 6

If you have a 84-90 75 series you can change them with a 60 series diffs, but after 1990,only the rear is interchangeable.

I would go with a rubber overdrive(bigger diameter tyres) rather than a diff swap.
33 inch tyres work well on a 75

Im in general aggreance with the others,Toyota got it pretty close to perfect.
