Mate ,if you have a family, then get yourself a decent 14inch wheel trailer.( 16inch are big an tuff, but too bloody heavy) I made my own and it's been in a lot of outback
places with never a hassle.
You ain't got enough room in your truck even if it's a troopy, I've had 2 in 11 years
and I still tow my trailer.All your
camping gear and sleeping gear in the trailer, clothes and food in the vehicle.
It means you never overload the vehicle and you can always see out the rear windows. You will need to install a stone deflector for obvious reasons. The trailer needs to be dustproof, but that's pretty easy to do.

Also , check with your insurance about using side mounted seats for passengers.
