if its the kind of rocking im thinking of get your wheel alignment checked wrong camber/caster car cause it to tram track(follow every high/low point on the road).

I would be looking for a warn ball joint ect . This can make you car swing from side to side in a fast manner , in a normal car it feels like its shifting lanes left and right , in a 4x4 it feels like the shocks are gone . :-)

ask youe mechanic if he goes off road , if he answer is no way , then he probaly hates 4x4 's , your answer is , find another mechanic lol

If it is lifted high, the caster will be out enough to do this. Putting skinny tyres on the front will help things alot.
Other things to look for are bent rim/s- drive and have a friend look from another car
busted ctr bolts in the springs- look for witness marks at the diff housing that things are moving.
