I would like to find out what is the purpose of these strips spaced around the vinyl of the pop top which i have. They seem to have some gel inside the pockets. My impression is that they are for expansion.Would that be so?Also does the gel need replenishing? Cheers.

My pop-top has flexible plastic strips set vertically around the vinyl, they are to ensure the vinyl folds inwards when you lower the pop-top, instead of it going outwards and getting trapped under the roof as it comes down. Is that what you mean?
