Hi. My brother has been on the road for 12 months now and after a couple of different ariels gave up and went to satellite.He had travelled Qld,NSW,SA,WA before giving up.Has now done WA and SA and reception is around 90per cent better.Regards,Bob

If the locals in the places you have been get TV with a simple roof antenna (not something on a huge pole), you should too.... are you scanning in the right mode ? I'm just learning to use my Wineguard antenna / TCL digital flat screen system - analogue is "TV" mode in their lingo - digital tv is DBR I think (I'm not in the van now). There is a different scan menu for each mode AND a different coax jack for each - I have to move the coax plug as I change modes.

are you talking about TV wich is bradcast around remote towns?

if so they dont broadcast far and are often broadcast on a mix of VHF and UHF

I travel extensively and not used my satellite TV in 3 yrs. Since the roll out of digital TV I get TV nearly everywhere. On a 1 night stand if there is no TV we dont bother with the satellite.
Winegard only do horizontal polarisation and half of TV transmitters are in vertical or cross polarisation (both horizontal and vertical).
With the TV charts and maps I know if there is TV coverage where we are, and which polarisation the TV Tx is. I then set my aerial up for the polarisation, aim my aerial correctly first time switch on and tune.
Winegard is 10/10 for convenience but 2/10 for reception and with no vertical polarisation never had one fitted to the new van.

Are you tuning your set for each place you arrive at and as said digital is only in the big centres.
IF your remote has a button for "source" set it to "TV" or analogue.

I bought the $539 set but got the inclinemeter with it free, also upgraded to the box that you can timeshift on. With a generic card and postage cost $638 posted to Alice Springs from Perth.

The larger the dish the easier to get a signal.

Dont bother with a digital sat finder not worth the extra the ordinary one is fine.

Also these guys include an Optus card which is worth $99 as well.

As long as you dont have heavy tree cover it works really well.

Dont buy a 60cm dish as a guy beside me in Tennant Creek had one, and even after an hour and a half we could not get a lock on the satellite that has Select TV (Pas8)

I store my dish against the Cargo barrier in a Cruiser so is not a problem. Lots just put them on the bed.
