Article Overview - Hunt Oil Road
This remote trek links the Gunbarrel Hwy with the Great Central Road. It passes via Mount Worsnop and past the Hunt Oil road camps and drilling sites. View Full Article...
Has anyone travelled the Hunt Oil Rd lately, hope to do it in 2 weeks time, wondering what the track is like.

Hi Watery,

The first half of my video here shows some of the Hunt Oil Road from 2008:

I'll be on the Great Central Road the weekend after next on a 6 day Perth-Perth recon mission north of Cosmo. I'll be driving the vehicle in my rig pic. May see you on the road.

Cheers

Hi Alan
Thought of you when we past this plaque west of Everard Junction. Did you put this in ? Also the video makes it look quite smooth past Geraldton Bore. The Old Gunbarrel was up to 4 separate track, people making new tracks to avoid the corrugations.

Cheers

Stephen.

Hi Stephen,

That section of track has its fair share of corrugations.

I put the sign there in 2003. The rocks I carted from 10 kilometers away in 2007. The paving gee, who would go to all that trouble...next thing you know the paving will be cemented into the gound lol...

Cheers
Alan

Thanks for that John. It took a while to put together - there will be no part 6 though :)

Word on the street is that Mick may be getting some cool editing software soon, so look out!!!

We traveled the Hunt Oil Road this year in may. read Mick,s trek notes there are a help.

We traveled north and the track is OK with some wash outs but very over grown with spinifex in places, we traveled solo and had no troubles. there would have been a fare through travel it by now this year so it should be a good trip, make sure you have a good look around theres plenty to see.

Regards

Richard
