Has the new Prado been released yet and have they announced if it has a new V6 diesel motor or the same 3 litre 4 cyclinder it has had in the past?

According to the latest Overlander magazine, it's a slightly revised version of the current 3L. Power and torque remain the same.

See here for more info:
"Toyota has upgraded the vehicle's four-litre V6 petrol engine to include dual VVT-i ... The petrol engine delivers more than 10 per cent extra power, as well as improved torque, fuel economy ... The turbo-diesel engine has also been improved, resulting in fuel economy better than nine litres per 100km"

Seems the biggest change to the diesel is a bit of reprogramming to improve fuel economy - if it keeps the 180L tanks the touring range will be approaching 2,000km!

I've just put in a new post regarding the launch as ExplorOz has been invited as a guest of Toyotas to attend this - November 23 in Orange NSW. The specs on the vehicles are available widely on the internet (some good links in previous posts) but it will be good to see the models first-hand, Michelle

For the petrol the following technology has been adopted
Dual VVTI which varies the inlet and exhaust timing
Roller rockers and hydraulic lash adjusters
202 Kw at 5600 RPM
381 Nm at 4400 but 85% of that from 1200 RPM

For the diesel there is no change in any major form but the control of direct injection has been changed along with quite of other modifications that make the engine quite different in characteristics from the current D4D
127Kw at 3400 RPM
410 Nm from 1600 to 2800 RPM

Gear ratio's in the auto are changed as are the shift points

This is a very different vehicle from 120 Prado

Toyota will do what they always do, release a new model with carryover drive trains and then a couple of years down the track release the same model with upgraded drive trains.
