ExplorOz attends Australian launch of new Toyota Prado

ExplorOz - David & Michelle

Hi guys,
Just thought we'd let you know that we have been invited by Toyota to attend the Australian launch of the new Toyotoa Prado (Nov 23rd in Orange, NSW).

The day includes a presentation, a drive program, and a 4WD driving session so we'll get some hands-on experience to bring back.

Clearly, we'll gather as much information relevant to the needs of 4WDrivers on each of the models etc but if you have anything specific that you'd like to ensure we explore, then use this post to let me know and I'll ensure it's included in our research, Michelle

Michelle, I don't see it on the gathering's list so if I am making the effort to come down from Brisbane for it, can you explain to me where I can camp and how long will I be thrown the keys for? Can I give it a gutful and really test it out?

See you there LOL!!

Hi Guys

Good effort , I'd specifically like to know if it has improved its tilt table angle up from its current 42 degrees.

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by tilt table angle. If you mean side slope then it remains at 42 degrees and if you can actually drive at that then you are doing remarkably well. That is about the maximum side slope angle any 4WD can handle before gravity takes over and that includes military spec vehicles. We put in a 32 degree side slope for the Adelaide launch track and that was plenty.

Approach angle is 32 degrees
Rampover angle is 22 degrees and
Departure angle is 25 degrees
Ground clearance is 220mm
Gross weight (GVM) ranges from ranges from 2600kg to 2900kg depending on model
Towing capacity on the five door is 2500 kg
Towing capacity on the three door is 3000kg, all braked of course

GX and GXL come with 17 inch wheels and VX and Top spec model with 18 inch rims.

GX has 245/70/17 tyres
GXL has 265/65/17 tyres, 120 current spec
VX and top spec have 265/60/18 tyres

VX and top spec have electronic and hydraulic KDSS which is spectacular on and off-road. Also top spec has five speed CRAWL and an electronic rear diff

Lots of other details regarding the new technology will be released once the cars hit the dealerships

Hi Rob

Thats a shame , one would have thought that its wider and lower so C of G might be better.

Tilt Table is a standard test ,on many cruiser brochures but not on Prado brochures (its at the lower end of the scale), but its not about wether you can drive it or not its comes into play when say a wheel goes into a rut or an impluse occurs that can cause a rollover.

There is a direct correlation with side slope and rollover likelyhood.

I was under the impression that it was already released after I saw one on the road last week?????

It was in Cronulla and it was a light blue colour, I know my 4x4's and I assure everyone it was the new prado.

Maybe doing a photo shoot near the beach or something? There is a big toyota/lexus/daihatsu plant just down the road so someone might have snuck out for a quick spin.

Based on information from a Toyota Dealership here in Adelaide today it would seem that because the specs have increased the fuel load has decreased - 15 L. What a shame - 180 was much better.
