Submitted: Thursday, Nov 05, 2009 at 23:37

I was wondering if any forum members know if the priority channel can be cancelled on a TX4400 once it has been enabled

I can change the priority channel to any of the 40 transmit/receive channels available but i would like to cancel it completly if possible

Any help would be appreciated

Regards Don

Pete Jackman (SA) replied:

Try this from teh handbook:

"• Feature Disabling Function: Allows Scanning, Squelch, Duplex, Priority, Channel selection and CTCSS features to be enabled or disabled to make the radio simpler to operate."

Then:

"The TX4400 has a number of features that can be disabled by the user to allow for much simpler operation. This is done by disabling one or more of the keys on the front panel. These include the Function, Scan/Dim, OS/GS/Page, Duplex/Alpha and the Quiet/Silent keys. To disable one of the keys:
1. Turn the radio OFF.
2. Press and hold the key you wish to disable while turning the radio back ON. A low beep will be heard and the selected key will no longer function. To re-enable the key, repeat the steps above. When the radio is turned on again, a high beep will be heard and the key will function normally again. For example, to disable the SCAN function:
1. Turn the radio OFF.
2. Press and hold the SCAN key while turning the radio back on. A low beep will be heard and the SCAN function will no longer be available. Repeat the procedure to re-enable the SCAN function."

Cheers

Pete

This works with most features but not with the priority channel as doing this will put the radio into programming mode to allow the extra receive channels to be programmed in

Yeah, I read that after I posted. The post below looks like the answer. There must be some way of doing it as it says it can be done in the preamble to the guide.

Good luck

I had a problem with mine a day after i purchased it. Took it back and they plugged in a laptop and did it all on this (uploaded the changes to the radio).

Donk why do you want to cancel it completely? If you don't need it then don't use it. I personally find it a very useful feature.

The trouble is once you but it in you cant remove it

It is a handy feature but i put a extra 15 receive only channels in and put them on a group scan but when it is group scanning if the priority channel (not one of the extra 15) has traffic on it the radio will lock on to it instead

If i want to than go back to the 15 i have to take it out of scan mode & manually select one of the 15

What i have done today is change (suggested by someone on another forum) the 15 to open scan (no priority channel on open scan) & make the others group scan to get around this

Also received a reply back from GME saying they can manually disconnect it if i want to send the unit back but whti have done today will work ok for now

The priority channel can be disabled in the software, only problem is that it also disables the channel selector.Obviously not an option.-Steve
