Hello,
I'm off too Birdsville on the 18/11 and I'm after any info on road conditions if anyone has been through the below areas recently please?? (I've checked the S.A. "outback roads" website, but first hand info is the best!!).

Mildura to Cockburn via the border roads; (Staying away from the Silver City Highway).

Arkaroola to Mungarannie;

Maugarannie to Birdsville;

Birdsville to Innmincka (via Walkers Crossing).

Innamincka to Thragamindah.

Thargaminda to Cobar;

After that I should be right??

Thanks in advance, George.

Short of someone going through the areas in question a day or two before you, SA Outback Roads report is the most reliable source available to you. You can expect dust, heat, flies.Thunderstorms are not out of the question during this time of the year. Watch the weather reports. No rain is expected through to midnight Wednesday (the 11th).

Came through some of that way a few days ago. Walkers crossing track heading Birdsville, the 15 mile track was difficult to follow because of dust storms on the pans, had to use GPS to navigate between the markers in some places. Navigation is a little difficult between and through the Moomba roads , the rest is not too bad but as usual the Gibber sections are rough.
The Grader and road crew were working towards Birdsville so that section wasn't to bad.
Quite corrugated heading east but a stretch of road works getting ready to seal.
I came back down to Innamincka through Betoota Arrabury some 630ks gibber and corrugations road works and sealing from the bridge for a while before Innamincka and severe corrugations. Apart from the road crews did not see another vehicle.
Not easy but Heh have fun out there.

When I left St George I also did that trip last month and back up what you said.

What I would add is that the temps have climbed "a lot" since then and some of those places are recording 35-42 dec C now with 25+ C overnight, NOT FUN.

Birdsville weather NOW

Cheers Colin.

Thanks very much too all for your info!!

I am expecting it to be hit out there! we are on a survey for next years 4wd Variety Bash in March / April and it's the only time we can do the route this year (due to work commitments), before the due date. There is 4 x 4wd's so we should be fine (but you just never know).

Thanks again, George.
