Mud crabs

Everett

What is the best time/tide to catch mud crabs?, Ive tried all night high & low tides, the locals (Taree) claim that there are mud crabs here, there are lots of small tidal creeks & mangroves . I just don't seem to be able to entice any crabs into the pots. I have used chicken & mullet fresh & old.

I don't know if they are there or not but tinned cat food brings them running if they are.

Use the oily, fishy variety. Punch a couple of holes in the tin then tie it to your trap and away you go.

The mud crabs will open the tin like a can opener if they are there.

Geoff,
Landcruiser HDJ78,
Grey hair is hereditary, you get it from children. Baldness is caused by watching the Wallabies.

Everett,
You are probably not locating the pots in the right place.Try and get them right into the little inlets that empty out into the river at low tide.Leave them there at low tide and pull them just after high tide.I have found the best bait to be sheep necks but mud crabs will eat just about anything.

high tides at night, use fresh bait daily, and as stated place your pots up small gully;s at high tide. never crabbed that far south and most likey, to early in the season.
