John & Helen,
We travelled up that road back in 99 on the way to the Cape.
We set off from
Longreach went pretty much due north to
Hughenden on roads that had just been opened. We had lunch in
Hughenden, I think. We also had a good break at Porcupine Creek Gorge. Didn't make it to Lynd Junction for the night but camped in a roadside stockpile about 20km short of the Lynd.
The travelling was pretty easy north of
Hughenden but the track was quite wet in patches which would have slowed us down some. In those days it was more a track than a road. The southern end was pretty rough after a very big wet season. The middle section was pretty good and it deteriorated for the last couple of hours. Mind you that was ten years ago.
I reckon
Hughenden to the Lynd Junction should be a pretty easy day.
