Hi All

Can anyone tell us what the road from Hughenden to the Lynd Junction is like ie good gravel, bitumen etc.

Thinking of travelling that way next year on our way to Undarra Lava Tubes. We will be towing a Jayco poptop.

Thanks

John & Helen

We travelled the other way back in 98 with a Falcon wagon and camper trailer without any dramas...the road was mostly unsealed and dirt or gravel...just watch for sudden dips and rough cattle grids and drive to the prevailing conditions and you should be o.k

John & Helen,

We travelled up that road back in 99 on the way to the Cape.

We set off from Longreach went pretty much due north to Hughenden on roads that had just been opened. We had lunch in Hughenden, I think. We also had a good break at Porcupine Creek Gorge. Didn't make it to Lynd Junction for the night but camped in a roadside stockpile about 20km short of the Lynd.

The travelling was pretty easy north of Hughenden but the track was quite wet in patches which would have slowed us down some. In those days it was more a track than a road. The southern end was pretty rough after a very big wet season. The middle section was pretty good and it deteriorated for the last couple of hours. Mind you that was ten years ago.

I reckon Hughenden to the Lynd Junction should be a pretty easy day.

I was on that road a couple of months ago. It still has a lot of dirt sections, but they were pretty good at the time. I was able to do 100 Km/h most of the way. The bitumen sections are increasing in length slowly, didn't take any notice of how many there were. There is probably 200 Km of dirt.

As noted previously, monitor UHF Ch 40 for the road trains, and you won't have a problem.

For more up to date road info, check road conditions closer to your travel date.

Oh, for an edit button...

The trip from Hughenden to the Lynd only took around 2-3 hrs.
