Hi warren,
I'm far from knowing anything about Nissans, but 15lt/100k's is a bit rich.
I've always kept an eye on fuel consumption to give me an idea of how the vehicle is traveling.
My 80 series 91 1HDT gets on average about 10 K/L, if I'm towing either the horse float with horses or our Jayco Swan this may drop down to about 7.5k/l or as low as 5k/l depending on how heavy my right foot gets.
I'm sure others will be more helpful, and now how to contact Nissan and what to do.
I hope you can get the problem sorted.

I to have a D40 and get excellent fuel ecomomy from it, 10L/100Klms, 12L/100klms towing camper trailer and grossing 3.7 tonne.

To carry out the reset carry out the following

Turn ingnition on so all dash lights come on.

Wait 3 seconds

PUMP accelerator pedel 5 times within 5 seconds....

with foot now OFF accelerator wait 7 seconds...

After 7 seconds press and hold down accelerator pedel for 10 seconds...

Atfer 10 seconds the Engine Managment Light will start to flash, at this point remove foot from accelerator.

the Navara is now in diag mode, so let the EML flash for a bit. then press and hold the acclerator pedel down for more than 10 seconds..this will then reset ECU and fuel pump etc......and put them into learning mode.

NOTE: When the EML light is flashing, this is listing possible fault codes... so if you know how to read the fault codes or know the sequences then you can figure out any possible faults with your Navara with out getting the dealer to do it!!

I had a 3lt Patrol in the convey a few months ago and it would go into limp mode. Hard to start and no power. This was not good as we were going out to Eyre Creek (Simpson Desert)

It was the EGT sensor that was playing up. The vehicle would be fine than just lose power. Once he had it replaced the EGT sensor vehicle was running better.

Instead of asking the EXPERTS here why not take it to your Nissan dealer and see if they can find a fault.

With out a scan tool you are only guessing and engine/electrical faults will no always log a fault code.

Where do you start..
A faulty sensor.
A faulty actuator.
Faulty wiring.
Faulty earth.
Faulty communications.
Faulty alternator.
Faulty variable vane in turbo.
Faulty drive by wire.
ABS feed back issue.
Faulty fuel pump.
Faulty pressure relief valve in fuel rail.
Transmission fault.

All of these issues have the ability to cause the vehicle to go into limp mode that I would say is what you are experiencing being able to only do 30Kph.

These faults can either be a soft or hard fault that may or may not record a fault and maybe resettable with turning the ignition on and off, disconnecting the battery, doing a manual or scan tool reset or may be time based.

You might have to ask then to read the raw data to see if something is not right.

Don't blame the dealer for not being able to fix it, we have found many problems that dealers and other repairs have overlooked.......and I know dealers and other repairers who have found faults that we have over looked or that has not be present when we tried to diagnose it.
