A few months ago when I was not able to purchase BFG/Toyo muddies in 265-75-16 to run on 2004 Landcruiser wagon,I purchased Goodyear [Kevlar]M/T'S. I now have done less than 3000kms and have had a tyre crack 20mm out from bead , parallel to bead and 100mm plus long.The tyres have only done less than 500kms on dirt not gravel and have not done any towing[ which they were purchased to do] Has anyone else had or heard of this problem, the tyre has been removed for a claim ,but has yet to be approved. Any help would be appreciated

I am on my second set of MTR's and both sets have been across the simpson and numerous other trips with a hassle.
I love my MTR's.
Lets hope it is just 1 dicky tyre.

Did you take out the warranty against punctures etc. Anyway I don't think you'll have problems getting it sorted - just go back to the dealer you bought them from.

Hi mick,
I personally haven't had much to do with them. having said that I have a set + two spares on our camper(87 Jayco Swan modified) that the previous owner had fitted. They had taken the camper around the block twice with them without an incident. They've given pretty good mileage and I've just traveled to St George with a around trip of about 2200 k's. A bloke I've been working with lately is on his second set and swears by them, he drives a 2005 HiLux dual cab.
I'd suggest to approach the mob you purchased them from and just explain what you've explained here to them. surely they'll come good.
3000kms isn't a long distance to travel in a tyres life.
As 120scruiser said, "Lets hope it is just 1 dicky tyre"

AFAIK these are a new tyre out only a few motnhs at most and are different to the old MTR

Hi Mick,

The radial cracks you're referring to are symptomatic of a compound or construction issue. Can happen if an allegedly American or Australian tyre is actually made in China or Malaysia. I had the same issue with some Cepek FC II's last year. Here is a link to the POST (62635).

With less than 3000km on them, they should be replaced by the dealer. Mine were without question.

I wouldn't stress to much mate, I had MTR's as my last set and I am running the Kevlars and have done about 6000k so far. This included Gawler Ranges, Googs Track and numerous tracks on Eyre Peninsular, with no hassles. I bel;ieve it would be just a bad tyre or batch, keep an eye on the others. Dealer should replace with no problems, if not I would see consumer affairs, but Goodyear seem to good with their warranty. IMHO I think overall you will happy with the MTR's..

Hi Mick

I also had the same problem with my Goodyear Kevlar M/Ts (purchased June 09). One of my tyres developed the split about 1000km into their use (discovered the problem in Innamincka so I was a bit concerned after that whether the rest of the tyres would hold up - they did).

On return from the trip I returned the tyre to where I purchased and it was replaced after being inspected by the Goodyear rep. So all should be ok regarding a replacement for you.

A wander through the American offroad websites do not bring up similar issues with the tyre, so hopefully it will not be a common problem.
