Good on you, but I am actually surprised.

I went the other way - spent many $$'s on cheaper ones, one after the other, until I've had it with troubles starting the light, low output and the like. Bought a Piranha and I wished I did that from the start

I am now looking at getting a second light, and it would definately be a Piranah or Versalight

I also have a Piranha fluro (11 watt, 0.8 amp) as well as an Evakool Torpedo compact fluro (13 watt, 0.5 amp) both of which are excellent.
The reason why these lights are more expensive is in the inverter technology of the units which enable higher light output but low amp consumption.

See if you can measure the current draw on your cheapie. You may well put it away to conserve valuable battery capacity.

Did you buy a bracket to support your light?
There is an excellent one available for the Piranha/Versalite which fits on to a tent pole allowing the bracket to side up or down. Simple but effective.
These fluoros can also be fitted with an internal yellow filter to limit the attraction of insects but it does reduce the brightness somewhat.

I have a versalite and on many camping trips over the years with mates who have had a variety of cheaper lights, nothing has come close to the versalite for brightness.
So I am surprised ... and somewhat intrigued by the cheaper light.

We've had two of these lights for something like 13-14 years now. A friend made up a great stand for them - acts like a street light stand. We have found them fantastic.

We always used to call it 'the very good light' - still do for that matter.
