Evening everyone
Thought i would give you a updated report on track .Mundaring.tanks to the lakes.

went for a night drive Thursday and well i hardly recognised it
well what used to be just a rocky drive .from the tanks to Flynn rd....is now quite a hard track.....couldn't believe the state of it ...and some idiot has got in there with a bobcat or a lot of shovel work...and dug a pit...eg:drop of to rival.gunshot.......its appalling...and right in the middle of the track.....so now there's a chicken track been ploughed through the bush.......and it gets worse.....holes dug all over the place....only one .what looked like it was once a nice car ..been dumped.....Flynn rd onwards....gets hard core ill tell you there's a few places that you could very easily get yourself into a lot of trouble very quickly..yes a lot of it is water erosion but there's a lot of evidence that the heroes..as they think themselves...have just dug it up for no good reason there's trees been felled....new tracks been pushed through the bush as chicken tracks because the existing track or i will dare say near major road they've been dug up and widened that much .are near impassable except in highly modified and lifted .vehicles...now what used to be the hard core track on the fence line.....is still very hard .but the idiots that try end be BIG MEN in front of there mates.......have killed it instead of admitting ..after walking the hill and seeing the boulder and the massive pit.(hole) that's just before the top .no i wont get up there .and going round they've got up and dug it up and them ripped down the said fence line and have made a three lane highway throw the feelas property.........wouldn't blame him for getting bleep ty i would and more....the rest of the track has been made from a single or just wider track into a bloody....4 lane highway......and the amount off blatant bush wrecking to make easier tracks to bypass the major spots is appalling........ the club that's supposed to have taken the track under there wing....needs to take a look before they put there name to things if there not going to upkeep the track ....just my two bob ....iv been going there for years last time was in august.......and i hardly recognised the place at all.....no longer is it somewhere for beginners to go and learn ....without fear ...its realy for the very experienced now ........a big shame.............................and i wish someone would catch the tools that are messing these tracks up for everyone..............remember a video on u tube early last year .from a club that was just blatant vandalism ...and there they were with club stickers all across there windows....thinking them self heroes...............................................sorry all it just gets up my nose

yes i posted as much i think it was on P4x4 a few months back
- id be surprised if it wasnt alot worse now

it should come as no surprise I first did the powerlines in 06 not long after every other track had been closed
- then there were a few hard stretches with a chicken track around
FF 3 years and these hard stretches are no ultra hard core, the chicken tracks are pretty hard to hard core as well the next chicken track is well on the way and often yet another ultra chicken track going right out bush bypasses the lot.

most of it used to be do able in a standard vehichle which is def no longer the case

Was thinking of heading up there when I get home on break next week!.

Sounds like I'd be better off staying down here and head out to Warren R. for a bit of a bash in the dunes instead.

some of the vehicles we see on the way back from York covered in mud in winter is amazing this year some of the main forest roads where crossed and they just drove around the signs.

a lot are youngins (and there got to have there fun) but the 30 & 40 year old should know better. I think...

I was out there today with a group of people and I agree with you that the section from Flynn Road has been clawed out............ saw some of your heros out on the track today ........... no regard for the damage done or the way the track was driven.

get outmore, the section from Flynn Road to the fenceline section is just do-able in a standard vehicle ..... just.

The Compact 4WD Club has been along the track a number of times now ........ it may soon be an area that we will no longer be able to use.

and while I'm up there .. on my soapbox ............ the amount of rubbish on the ground seems to be increasing.

how much of that is using chicken tracks?

there used to be only a few of the hardest bits that would require chicken tracks with a std vehicle but even then if the right line was chosen they could be done.

might head back out there again soon when bored - not for a good thrash but to kick back and wach the carnage

this guy did some damage to his new rodeao last time I went out there

I can understand your frustrations regarding the powerline track, but I would like to comment on part of your statement regarding the club that has adopted that part of the track.
as the track adoption program here hosted by TrackCare WA Inc, we have very willing and abled bodies and clubs ready to donate their time and vehicles to clean up and repair tracks that are needed, infact these clubs are raring to go and get somethink done in the endevour to keep tracks such as the powerline track open for future recreational use.
Unfortuneatly there is a policy set down with agreement from DEC and the adopties that must be heeded to. The problem that we are having at the moment is for one party to comply with that policy in a urgent way.
We know the tracks are in disrepair and urgently need looking into, we are also deaware of the cowboys who have disregard for the enviorment and are well aware of the area you stated about the bobcat and have reported it.
Like you TrackCare and the adoptees are not happy about the way the area is degenerating and is trying to do somethink about it.

Agree with you, Powerlines are chopped to hell, I dont bother going there anymore.

Our club [Toodyay] in partnership with Getaway 4x4 have adopted the Avon NP and Julimar Forest areas.

Our club has voted me to be their 'Environmental Delegate', whatever that is.
I'll finish my beer and toss the empty into the bush while I think about it.....lol.

Wouldnt mind tagging along to the next meeting myself.

But its different for you Lional as the Toodyay club is a member of TrackCare then you as a member of your 4wd club are also a member of Trackcare.

A visit to another Perth based forum will show the extent of the damaage to the track and to the damage to vehicles using the track. Seems every week somebody else has rolled a vehicle, drowned it in the waterholes or smashed/broken some mechanical component. MAD

The section of track shown above used to be quite a firm based section with deep ruts that you could straddle quite easily. It now looks a mess.

On my last visist out there many of the chicken trcks where becoming as rough as the main track so more chicken tracks where being forced through.

Give it another 12 months and no doubt DEC will close the track.

I'm not familiar with the piece of track shown in your picture, I don't think it is a part of the section of track between Flynn Road on the Fenceline section of track.

G'day Ozzie,
I don't think that Bundy was having a go at any of the three groups/clubs that look after the power line track. I read it as him venting about people that drive the track........... possibly in two wheel drive, coz we can ...... and with no regard for the damage being done to the track in the mean time.

As part of the overall observation, I agree that it will not be long before this is closed ........... to everyone.

Any chance of letting us know the next time that you head up to Julimar? Our club members would like to see a little more of the area.

I worry a bit for julimar. Unless therss somwhere ive missed its mostly just a scenic drive. Some of the hills have ruts where erosion has taken place

From pics ive seen groups go there for some hard core 4wding and when they find theres not another powerlines out there they start driving through the creek and up the banks to get some flex and mud shots.

MX riders have torn a fair proportion of it to peices as well.

I worry yet aother spot to cruise around out bush will have a fence around it

One example being Sappers. Its become pretty butchered over time and is part of the repair program we will be working on.
Once done, DEC plan to make this track available to the public, as well as others in the area.

Last Avon Descent DEC asked us to man a number of gated tracks to prevent vehicles entering. People had been getting around the gates and doing a fair bit of damage, then errosion happens, then the wrecks get dumped, then illegal fires, then.......then........then.......you know the old story.
Out of the many vehicles that came through, most people understood the situation, however, the only ones that tried to argue the point were the younger ones with modified cars and a ton of booze in the back. [probably the same ones from the powerlines....lol.]

I was young once, the more someone told me not to do something, the more I did it. Dont think it will ever stop.

by sappers do you mean that rutted track that leads down to the river and there is a campground at the bottom?

I know there is a gate at the top but it is usually open (havnt been there for a fair while now)

I used to cruise Juilimar a bit when my ex was working at toodyay so i would drive up early and cruise Julimar till she knocked off work

plenty of tracks to enjoy a day in the bush but no wheel lifting action
