If that program was a 4 x 4 trek through the East and West MacDonnell Ranges near Alice Springs, it will be on again Saturday 6.30pm on 1HD

Yep!
Well perhaps I really did not watch from the point of view I channel hopped whilst it was on.

I'm sorry I can't share your enthusiasm, if perchance you recorded it, please watch it again , then perhaps a third time if necessary. Just one huge info-mercial. That is , a string of paid advertisements dressed up in an attempt to convince the viewer they are being provided with valuable/necessary information.

Have a look at it again.

Must stop places. Must have pieces of equipment. What a load of rubbish. In particular the advertisement, because that was what it was, for the foxwing awning. Wow oh wow! the awning has a downpipe. For crying out loud, can't we survive a two day weekend without our awning, (if we have one), having a bloody downpipe.

If ever I saw an example of a solution looking for a problem it was that bloody fabric water down pipe on an awning.

Completely agree Ian. After watching that show I have no idea how I ever cooked anything in the bush without an Auspit :-))
Any show that runs on the basis of an ifo-mercial lacks real credibility. How do you know when Pat's recomending something because it's good or just because a company has paid him to say so?
But be careful, don't critisize too loudly. ExOz are a sponsor of the show you know ;-)

Cheers Craig.............

Fairly disappointing from my point of view. It reminded me of the dvds I used to get from one of the 4WD magazines, which had little useable content, but had wall to wall free plugs for supplied product, all of which are 'must haves'. And presenters with no television expertise. More like a sponsored home movie. Had it been a bit better I would have considered the dvds, but won't have to bother now.

Others will disagree.

I completely agree Jack, just a blatant product push especially the Auspit.
Ya gotta have this ya gotta have that, you'd need a semi-trailer to carry it all. I won't bother watching it again.

Didn't see it and probably won't bother. Sorry but I agree with both Ian and Jack. Watched the first one and it was a huge info-mercial. This is the sort of bloke who whacks a custom drizabone and Akubras on the kids and calls himself Mr 4x4 as a result.

I'm sure it'll appeal to many armchair travellers but I can't help but feel that there are a great many people who are a lot more experienced, a lot more knowledgeable who can provide sensible, unbiased advice. Ask a Q on this forum for example!

Pat is a professional Journo who owns his own media and production company. I think it's important to remember that and who's paying his wages.

I have no doubt people will disagree. This is my opinion only.

Cheers Mick.

What a NEGATIVE pack you are!!!!!! Me thinks you should elevate your thoughts to a positive and try to see the better objectives of the show,,,,one of which is CLEAN FAMILY entertainment,,, you could actually let your children watch the show,,not everyone in a 4wd is an expert,I feel sure there are others that watched and learned and enjoyed the show,,I thought the 4wd racing was interesting, didn,t you,As far as advertising goes ,,,everything we see on tv is paid for by advertising, so whats the problem,I had never seen an Auspit,,now I have,I had only heard of the deflator,,now i,ve seen it work,, Get a life fellas there is a big world out there Enjoy it

Negative?

Perhaps, depends on individual viewpoints doesn't it.

You posted about it being a great show and for you, I'm sure it was. For me and others it was underwhelming. I thought it to be better suited to the Expo Channel but then it is a "non ratings period" at the moment and the channels are looking for cheap "Filler" programmes.

Yes! You are correct programmes are paid for by advertising and those ads appear in the commercial break. We know they are paid ads. The issue I have with Callinan's show is that he does not tell you that they are paid ads. Call me a cynic, call me whatever you want (but not late for dinner). Do you honestly believe that each of those product endorsements/advertisements were solely included on merit and were anything other than paid ads. The point being that products were endorsed, not necessarily because they were found worthy, but because they were paid for.

Sorry to have an opinion that differs with yours.

Ian

Ian .,what does it matter if he is paid to endorse those products,,and can you state categorically that he is paid to promote the products,,, anddd,, I and many others want to see all the goodies ,the point is that if he promotes products which are not worthy his show will fall over. However the show is based around interesting subjects, interesting products, interesting scenery,I want to see his show prosper and I hope he makes heaps of $$$ from it and so long as he continues to show me what I want to see then I will watch the show I may even buy a demonstrated product. Ian dont be such a cynic ,view the show for your enjoyment and dont worry about what the other fellow is doing so long as he is not harming anybody he,s fine. the show is made for us to enjoy,,enjoy it

Turbopete,

The original question basically asked what you thought of the show, I and a couple of others gave our opinion.

Sorry if that is at variance with yours.

Let's agree to differ and leave it there.

Kind regards,

Ian

So I guess you lot of whingers are unhappy that this site sponsered the show as well...? I think a bit of TV advertising for this site will be great.

I think you have to remember that any show that is just starting out is going to be fairly 'high level' and will require a lot of money to get going. I think it was a lot better than the first series and well worth watching again. But perhaps I'm not a hard-core tourer like some of you...

Hi Palmy,

So the show was sponsored by this site!

That is the prerogative of the owners of this site.

It was sponsored by the OWNERS, not members, who pay a fee to the OWNERS to participate fully on the site. I don't have an issue with that as I elect to PAY the OWNERS so as to be able to participate

This site is a BUSINESS! This site is here to make money for the owners. I don't have an issue with that either.

Why did the owners of this site participate in sponsoring the show? Was it not an attempt to publicise this site and thus perhaps attract new members, who pay a fee to join?

Again I don't have a problem with that, any wise business person should seek to grow their business.

Now!

Going back to the original post. The question was asked. "Wasn't that a great show/programme?".
Sorry, no, from my perspective it wasn't. It was a string of paid commercials with a little padding out.

Again, I can only apologise for daring to have a contrary opinion.

Guys, if it's going to cause so much angst please give some of us a little clue as to the answer you want so that we cause no offence.

Sorry if I seem a little naive, I was under the impression that if someone asked an open ended question they were looking for an open reply.

Ian.

Since when does being a Business member count as being sponsored by Exploroz??

Business Membership as far as I know is there for the OWNERS of Exploroz to make money in the form of other Businesses advertising on the site and not them "Sponsoring" the Business member.
In Pat's case it may well be that they promote each other in the 2 different types of media they actually use as part of the business relationship that they have.

Cheers Kev

So it's ok for this site to be a BUSINESS and to attract new members who pay a joining fee, but it's not ok for other companies???

I generally read this site daily, and stay away from heated topics like this, but really, this is pretty stupid...

Watch the show, don't watch show, but get over youself.

Fully endorse your sentiments re the real adventurers. Great that they were driven by passion and a sense of purpose. This new stuff lacks any soul or substance.

For crying out loud, read Callinan's Blogs on this site and decide whether you want to waste part of your life watching the TV show or not.

Can't believe what some of you lot will argue about.
