i always (nearly )stay at Banool lodge at falls creek on parallel st right near the top of village and for $1400 you can have a 8-10 berth for a week?

but it is cheaper to stay off mountain in vic but nsw is a bit further from mountain i guess jindabyne .

snow is still good and vic resorts are now free entry for rest of season and maybe even a few days of free lift hire but that is always at last minutes notice as they love there money too much.
but good incentive to pick up on day only trade.

Goto places away from the mountains and main resorts.. It maynot be the 'best' snow on earth, but places like Woods Point, Jamieson etc are away from the 'main' places but would be cheap as crap. Book lots early, then drive there in the morning each day.

Or go camp at Sheepyard flat, and drive up.. Lots of alternatives, just depends on what you want to do... You can do a day trip to places from Melbourne to places like Mt Skene no problems.

There's no accom on the snow fields but Cooma and Adaminaby are only an hour or so away . . .

Wont break the budget. Its not the same as staying "on the snow", but your wallet will love you.

You could do the same by staying in Canberra and going up from there. Mt Selwyn (the cheapest option) would be about 2 to 2.5 hours away. Of course you could also go to Thredbo or Perisher as well.

You could stay at Jindabyne . . . but in Winter time . . . its not cheap either

A great well priced family B adn B is Jumblerock at Jindabyne. I paid $80 per night twin share in the peak season. Now is off season and should be cheaper. I got on to them through high country reservations at Jindabyne. You then have the choice of going to Perisher or Thredbo. Both great places to ski.
