You're not far from where most trouble originates (note this is very different to where most trouble finishes up) in
Dubbo if you stay at Westview. I also stayed there many years back but knowing what I know now, wouldn't choose to stay there or anywhere else in
Dubbo again.
Wellington Caves has a nice quiet park,
Peak Hill also has what I would consider a safer park than any in
Dubbo, both these towns are not that far from
Dubbo if you don't mind a drive in and out. My personal choice is to stay at a noisy roadside
camp up at Brocklehurst (9kms nth of
Dubbo) and drive in each day, I contract work in
Dubbo every couple of months and have used this option for many a year.
If you are travelling with friends, maybe look after each others
camp whilst the other goes to the zoo. It will add a day to your stay but there is heaps more than just the zoo to see in
Dubbo anyway.
Make the effort to have a good look around, as apart from the small element of trouble in town it is a beautiful region. If you ar not out crawling the street at 2am I reckon you won't see much trouble at all.
Cheers, Trevor.
