Diff Lock front or back?

Submitted: Wednesday, Feb 27, 2002 at 00:00

Rick

On a GU patrol with a limited slip diff in the rear, is the best position for a diff lock front axle or rear? I have heard arguments both ways from ARB shops and was wondering what the consensus was out in the field!

Rick,
In the end it is up to you... but if it helps, I got a GU with an ARB air locker and I chose to install it on the front, the LSD on Patrols is so good that everyone suggested the air locker on the front, I am convinced I made the right decision.

Rick I have a GQ and i put a air locker in the front. The limos are extremly good in the nissans and if you are only doing average off road work the locker in the front is the way to go.Keep the diff oil changed at correct intervals and the limo will work at its best for many years. The advantage with the air locker in the front is you only turn it on when you need it and off again .I still can steer quite well with it in the front.
hope this helps glen

The consensus among those I know seems to be that if you only have one locker than it should be in the front, and you'll get even further if you have the good fortune to have a good LSD in the rear.
