GPS

Evening all,
After suffering the deficiencies of off road software mapping, I am in the market for a unit which supplies the following.

1/ City turn by turn navigation, with voice guidance.

2/ Speed view whist in item 1.

3/ POI for item 1.

3/ Oziexplorer loaded as a alternate map source for all of Australia. (Not interseted if the map source can't plot a route through Walker's Crossing)

4/ The ability to upgrade each map source without upsetting the other.

Been looking for a number of years and have yet to find a unit which meets this simple criteria.

Cheers

Steve

Almost all GPS units that have an SD card will fit the bill. Route 66 & Igo have speed displayed among other info as does oziexplorer, Australian raster maps will give you as much detail as you require.
Just jump on to ebay buy a GPS, buy oziexporer buy maps and load.

Regards

Mark

Hey Mark,
Does Igo display your speed when the unit is navigating turn by turn?

Igo has an option to display speed if you wish. I (and many gps critics) think its system is the most user friendly.

Blue,

I have IGO in my 4WD in dash unit and it displays speed, altitude as well as map and turn by turn by voice.

You will still need to switch to OziExplorer or similar for off road.

Hi Steve,

Regarding point 3 about Oziexplorer. Oziexplorer itself cannot plot the best way from A to B like Tom Tom etc, however you can pre-program a route, and Ozi has great route plotting features.

Hi Equinox,
Yep I am familiar with the oziexplorer moving map. I have used a couple of moving map packages and I reckon it's time to spend some to get a unit that delivers the goods. Hence I am after a nit with ozi on it.

It sounds like your are after a similar set up to what I wanted.

This is what I came up with and now use:
A 7 inch Knav (cheap Chinese import) I bought for $275 on ebay.

It runs Igo 8
Oziexplorer CE.

It has an SD card slot into which I've loaded a 32 gb sd card. The software, Igo & OziExplorer, run from the SD card. It has other features that I don't use such as a wireless rear view camera.

I've used it for a year now without a hiccup and on some pretty dodgy tracks too (heavily corrugated) without mishap. It has been great so far.

I don't know if it runs both Igo8 and OziExplorer simultaneously, so I have to stop one to run the other. I could load Tom Tom and run that too if I chose to but Igo is good as Tom Tom, I've found.

One of our sons got one off ebay.

All was fine until he heard ours playing some music with Oziexplorer showing a map. With his unit you could not listen to the radio or any music or video etc at the same time as having Ozi running. Not even blue tooth.

Double check this one.

To the knockers of ebay; It had nothing to do with ebay.
