Visiting Broken Hill

Submitted: Monday, Dec 01, 2003 at 21:12

Mick

Planning a trip to Broken Hill for a group of about 10 vehicles. I'd appreciate recommendations re Caravan Parks (suitable for caravans, trailers and tents) and any "must see" attractions the area has to offer.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Mick,

Lots to see in BH....mine tour, art galleries, school of the air, royal flying doctor service, art galleries, Silverton, air mail runs, art galleries, Menindee, art galleries, sculptures. The best bet is to contact the BH visitors centre for info.

As fas as accomm goes, we have stayed at the Lakeview Caravan Park a few times but have used the onsite cabins. It is clean and has pool, bbq area, but not sure on other facilities.

Lake View Broken Hill Caravan Park

Lakeview CP is good, its away from most traffic so it's a bit quiter.

Mootwingee to the north is worth a few days camping under the stars, the mine tour is great, (Delprats mine) there is lots to see and do.

1. Mutawintji NP ( try here) is great, might be a bit dry at present.

2. Pro Harts gallery, whether you love or hate his art, is a must see.

3. An aboriginal art gallery (can't remember the name ) a couple of blocks off the main street on the eastern side of town (you'll find it easily if you go to tourist info), also great and a bit cheaper than Pro's :-)

Regards,
Brad.

Hi Mick,
As others have said Lakeview CP is good, it at least has some trees and grass which seemed to be absent in another CP I saw in BH.

Out past Silverton is Mundi Mundi lookout, it is an amazing view.
The Living Desert sculptures are good.
The Daydream Mine Tour, also out towards Silverton, is an amazing view of mining in the bad old days.
Broken Hill cemetery is HUUUGE about 60,000 graves....if your into that sort of thing there are some interesting insights into the hardships of life in early BH....

enjoy your stay

I was only there 3 days, ya need 3 weeks really.

Go to the Tourism Centre first up and you will get all the info you needCheers
