i know it is not easy to search LCOOL but i posted the same question some time ago...
The block is basically the same, it does not have the oil outlet for the turbo supply or the drain tapped in, you simply tee off the oil pressure swith for supply and drain into the sump ... one thread on LCOOL has some really good pics eh...
The crank is supposed to be exacly the same, but you need to change the rods and pistons, both at available on EBAY ......
The head from the HDT also has some water plumbing and hoses ect to fit and change but very do-able.......
Cheers and good luck with it, i will be doing mine in the next 6-12 months ...

I was looking to do a similar mod to my 1HZ but I was lucky enough to find a low k 1HD-FT complete from a written off 1997 80 series.
While doing the research for a 1HZ to 1HD-T conversation I came to the conclusion that cost and off road time was, for me anyway not worth the hassle. The block and crank were no dramas but be careful of little items that could effect reliability such as oil spray nozzles under the piston skirts and changing the fuel pump over to suit the injection pressures of the 1HD-T injectors and the aneroid to prevent overfueling at low boost pressures. I am not sure if the oil pump is the same seeing as how you would need extra oil volume.
Having said that yes it does appear do-able but it may be easier and more cost effective to get hold of a 1HD-T or if you can find one a 1HD-FT and do a standard re-build while having the use of what you have.
Good luck

Yes I agree. I think I will
rebuild my 1HDT when it needs it and not worry about converting the 1HZ.
Its just I have the 1HZ sitting in the shed and I thought it could be a viable alternative and I could take my time building it up and then swap the engines over when I am ready.
Thanks for your input
