Hail damaged vehicles

All the car yards in my area copped the hail storm yesterday. A lot of damage to new and used cars.
I was inerested in a patrol they had there 2nd hand and went back today to have a look at the damage. Dints the size of 20c pieces all over the bonnet and roof.
What i want to know is what would be a fair discount off the price they were asking? Was quoted about $2000 but wont know for sure until tomorrow afternoon. I dont know a lot about panel repairs but thought this wouldnt cover the repair cost.
Anyone here have any idea?
The patrol was a 2000 gu st 4500 petrol, bullbar, driving lights and towbar. Listed at $38000. About 70000 kms

We had about 15 cars damaged at our office yesterday also. Some of the staff have already had quotes form panel beaters and they all seem to be in the 5 to 6K range and these are cars of much greater age and much less value than what you are looking at.

If it was me, I would be wanting a discount of atleast 4,000 if not more.
The bonnet could be replaced but the roof is a worry. You would
want to get a really good repairer.

We had a storm here this time last year. The hail was the size of the tops of coke cans... with out a lie I don’t know how any one didn’t get killed... I still have some in our freezer. My SS commodore got hit as well as a transit van
The van was fine however the car along with 500 others in our area were hit bad.
Over the year most of the people here got them fixed or sold their cars or both... the average discount from hail damage was 5 -7 k... if you could get them to take it on a trade... most didn’t wasn’t to know about trades like that.. Sell privately they said... easier said then done too,

My advice... find another Vehicle.

Repaired cars looked good for about 6 months then the marks started showing again.
Repairs varied from $2000 to $7500.

Nobody wants to buy them back off you

Just a thought but i dont think the insurance companys want to insure these vehicles ,,,just check before purchase.

sounds like your paying Ti prices for a ST , around 30 to 32 K is its value .

Little trick , ring up the car yard and tell them you have a Patrol for sale , similar condition , and make sure they dont figure out its you . See what they put on it, them you will have a good idea of what to offer , around 2 K over what they say is reasonableVenus Bay

The GU you are looking at is 5k overpriced to start with for that sort of money you should be getting a 4.8l these day or a turbo diesel.

There is excellent advice in each of these responses. The bodywork on m,y Subi has copped a hell of a lot of flak over the past three years but nowhere near what a hailstorm would have done. The value is not in the bodywork anymore (obviously) and only in what is underneath. Any panelbeater will charge much more than what the car is worth to fix it. If it was me, I'd find an identical model in wrecking and swap panels.
