rob

hi i have a 3.olt patrol st around town its getting as bad as 6.6 km per lt and on the open road its about 8.6 km per lt its only got 17000km on the clock with steel bullbar and snorkel with 285 75 16 tyers as off 5-4-2002 it had a air senser changed. as it went it was as if the turbo had stoped working thay also said that the repair was about $1000 to fix thay payed and took 1 day for repairs
so far nissan has charged me for a fuel filter at $75 to fix the high fuel use which did not fix the problem am looking at aftermart fuel filters as i am doing the canning stock route in aug 2002 as a clud trip any hints in accessories, fuel use for a 3.0 lt man would help thanks

hello rob, my 3.0l has 74000k and does 8-8.5k per litre round town ,with full length roof rack, and fully kitted, winch, tools, supplies on board,i would guess extra weight approx 300 kilo, suspension is approx 2 inches lower at rear due to load carried,i fitted hiclones, seemed to improve consumption by 1 kl per litre.but cant be scientific about this because this small change would be within your mathematical margin for error, also fuel consumption doesnt seem to vary much between onen road and city.

Rob, I also have a 3lt TD Patrol (Manual) with 285x75R16's on it. Has a steel bar & kaymar rear bar with dual spares on it, replacement tanks etc, etc so it is fairly heavy. Best highway cruising I have got out of it is 11l/100km, worst crossing Simpson desert was 13.5l/100km. If my maths is correct this ranges from 9km/l to 7.4km/l. Andreas

rob this may help I've got the st 4.2 series 2 wagon and every 2mths or so I undo the diesel supply line + return to tank nut on the back of the pump 17mm and pump the manual lift pump toflush out the main pump and you get a little bit of junk out . That lifts the nose up when you boot it.

I have a 3l GU series 2 purchased june 2000 with 43000 on the clock. When new I was getting up to 9.2 km/l.
Now, no matter what I do, I cant get past 7.2 km/ and it goes down hill from herel. I run a roof rack, snorkel and BFG's. Towing a van I can still get 6.6 km/l which is however good.
I would like to get a specialist to put it on a dyno and give an opinion but there are none within a few thousand kms. My fathers petrol jackaroo gives better consumption when solo.
